Lovely walk and lunch at said hostelry, a lot of the walk was in shade next to a river so very pleasant and lunch included a pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord, which to those in the know, is sheer nectar. Might have to do this walk again soon.smile

    Nice piccies SteveL.

    Thanks WN.

A drop of Landlord would go down well on such a hot day.😀

Ooh! Timothy Taylor's Landlord used to be my favourite when we lived in Bingley - The Brown Cow got a lot of investment from me. Must admit though I've switched allegiances to St Austell's Tribute these days.smile

We had a bit of a scare with Harry yesterday - he's suffering in the hot weather and it looked as if his back legs had collapsed on him. Seems OK today but we've only taken him for very short toilet walks. Fingers crossed, but I fear we've a difficult decision to make before long - just going to let him "do his thing" for a while.

You have my sympathy Moulesy. We had the same thing happen to us. Polly kept collapsing, sometimes she'd just sit down (once when crossing a busy street. Fortunately the bus driver was very understanding). We had to make your forthcoming decision and it's never easy. Good luck.

Very hard with elderly dogs in this heat M, hope he's ok. We haven't taken ours out other than into Rowntree Park today, it's just far too hot for them. Bucket of cool water this afternoon helped though. All the best with Harry, we have been there a few times.

You could try "rock sulphur" in their water bowl it aids to keep them cool , also let them lay on wet towels

We use wet towels, but didn't know about rock sulphur, so thanks HD!

We did a split activity day today, didn't want to leave the dogs in MH, too hot. So I opted to do something I haven't done for years, and did one of the River Ouse cruises. Very interesting and relaxing, great commentary and so lovely different views from the river. OH decided to walk the Walls again, but he also found the church where my Dad was christened 89 years ago, St Wilfred's. Took some photos for me and Mum, and lit a candle for Dad, bless him. Coming up for a year since he died, don't half miss him.....cry

I just read that article and I must admit I do get dryness of skin around my lips and on my hands but I still think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. You can always use skin moisturisers like the Nivea lip balm. It can alleviate the problem but doesn't cure it.

Sounds as though you have been able to do the things you were looking forward to doing in York TDA. smile I still think about my Dad even though he died when I was just in my thirties, I remember him a lot on the walks we shared.

It's very difficult for dogs in hot weather, especially older ones, our sixteen year old terrier likes to be in the shade somewhere in the house. She doesn't like water so it's not the solution for her, just a cool spot on a cold floor. It has got steadily hotter here again today after a deluge when we were out earlier.

Still no rain here. I have been looking back at some photos, we were away end of April, early May in that glorious hot weather for TdeYorkshire. I am having trouble recalling any rain up here since then to be honest, around eight weeks or so now. Not complaining though, it's very nice dining outside both at home and away in MH. We head home tomorrow, but if alls well, might try and grab another few days away while this hot spell lasts.

Went to WWT at Arundel yesterday and enjoyed. Pitched up at C&CC site at Canterbury today. It rained about 5.30pm as we sat outside. I must have been hit by all of 300 drops over a 15 minute period smile

It makes my eyes water, and a tight chest if in and Aircon building for long.

We have quarry tiles in the hall, and the dog lays there,  and we take him swimming in the river, and tonight he wouldn't come out, had to tempt him with treats.

    entrance fee £16.50 each

B2, that's nearly half the membership fee for a couple for The Historic Houses Association, and you'd have got in free with that. Membership of it must be one of the best bargains ever for those that like to visit the large country properties such a Holkam, Blenheim, Castle Howard, Chatsworth ( new this year to HHA) etc that are not part of the N/T set-up.

We often go there, EasyT but haven't been recently, partly because it's too hot to walk around in this weather and also because of having less time off in my work rota.

Do you have membership of WWT? We have membership so it's free of charge to visit any of the wetland centres. We have visited the London WWT too which we enjoyed very much. Well worth a visit if you are in that area. It's also in a very beautiful part of London near the River Thames and Richmond Park. There is plenty of car parking available there at the WWT London too.

Yesterday, we went to the bank in the morning to pay cash in from the drop money and tips. So my wallet is feeling a lot lighter now! Next we swapped over cars as we keep the Shogun parked in the car park and the Smart car on our pitch. This saves us the extra £2 charge for parking an extra car on our pitch. So the Shogun is now parked next tomour caravan ready to load up for our 2 days away in Littlehampton CMC site.

Then back to our airconditioned caravan to relax, chill out, listen to music and enjoy a Scotch on the Rocks accompanied by Tortillas with a selection of Tesco Classic dips. Outside my front window I could see people walking around looking very hot and uncomfortable with just shorts and no shirt! Having airconditioning fitted in our caravan when we first bought it was probably the best investment I've ever made in my life! Summers here are far too hot for me. When the sun's out, the hest is so intense that it becomes unbearable.

Next we had a tasty lunch inside the cool comfort of the caravan and this wa followed by my afternoon nap. Then wake up in time for our evening meal before going back to bed again. Having had an afternoon and nights sleep, I now feel much more recovered and ready to get back to work for my next shift.

It's going to be a busy few days ahead because tomorrow, Saturday is our moving day, so we will need to hitch up for the 7 mile journey to Littlehampton CMC site. Then I need to leave for work at about 15:00 as I'm due to start work at 16:00 and need to swap over cars, to use the Smart car for my work shift. I'm due to finish work at 23:00. So on the same day that we move, I have to do a 7 hour shift at work.

I find that the best thing is to switch off the aircon when getting up in the morning whilst it's still cool enough outside and open up all the windows. That way, you can get plenty of fresh air inside the caravan before it gets too hot. By 10:00 a.m. it's  necessary to shut all the windows and get the aircon switched on because by then it gets too hot to sit comfortably inside without it.

Also I need to sleep in the day so that I don't feel too tired for my evening shift and can't do so if I'm feeling too hot. You need to set the thermostat to a temperature that is comfortable. It can cool to 16 degrees celsius but most people find that too cold. 18 degrees is comfortable if you are active and between 21 to 25 degrees if you're sitting listening to music or watching tv.

We have Historic Houses membership too. We've visited a few of their properties since joining last year. We visited Arundel Castle Gardens which is new to Historic Houses this year, also Parham House with its gardens and extensive estate, is well worth a visit if you are in this area.

Joining is not worthwhile for us Malcolm. Too few sites around UK. If I lived near one like Arundel then I probably would

I saw something that I had not seen before. A two seat Smart car with fitted tow bar. Probably for carrying bikes?

Busy day today including taking my brother and SIL out for lunch to celebrate his 70th Birthday.  Got to assemble 2 x bikes.  Load car and head for Pembrokeshire probably about 7pm.  Hopefully back to the van about 1 in the morning

Did you go on the boat safari whilst you were there, EasyT?

Some of the wardens that operate it are very knowledgeable about the surrounding  wildlife and I find you get to see more because you're sitting on the boat watching instead of having to watch where you are walking. Also, it's cooler and more comfortable on water.
