Been  as  far  as  the  corner  shop  for  the  newspaper,  then  filling  bird  feeders.  So  now  I'm  back  in  the  house  eating  a  choc  ice ,  just  to  warm  up  of  course  embarassed.

Grey  skies  in  Cheshire  and  a  few  snow  flurries  but  bitterly  cold  wind.  Hope  the  'high  sided  ones'  are  all  safe  &  sheltered  nicely.

Now  I'm  going  to  curl  up  with  the  crossword  until  the  Rugby  starts,  then,  doubtless,  I'll  have  a  few  'cross  words'  of  my  own wink  !!

Cruel  you  are,  H & T --  I'm  only  allowed  Lardy  cake  once  a  year  !!  It's  a  great  way  of  keeping  Sugar  Levels  up  while  ambling  round  the  G D S F   site  !!

Haven't had proper Lardy cake since I was a youngster in Gloucestershire when most bakers made their own, not like the mass produced excuse they serve nowsurprised

I've got a recipe for an Oxford lardy cake, I made it once as OH loves them, it wasn't easy to do, turned out quite well but haven't made it since!

The snow is increasing now, stay warm everyone.

You will get moved on from most lay-bys, and anyway you will need somewhere to get water and empty waste, so realistically that is not an option.  I don't know that you would be allowed to camp in the motorway services either, no doubt they too have rules.

Hopefully you will get onto your pitch soon, but it would be a good idea to have a back up plan.  As a holiday area, there must be other, non Club sites available, and are you still a member of the C&CC too?

I would be doing some serious research into what else is available in the area, just in case.

Looking at the Late availability for Easter W/end i would think that if the weather gets better and the ground starts to dry out there will be more pitches becoming available, when some wetter sites can release their grass pitches

If that happens, JVB66, they'll give us our seasonal pitch here so no need elsewhere!

Proper Lardy Cake is quite difficult to find, one I bought this morning was from bakery stall on the market and homemade. Delicious.

There is a small bakery in Stamford that sells a really good one.

They do a nice one. Like the ones I remember as a lad, also in Gloucestershire, at Butts farm shop near Cirencester.

Now they have been mentioned, I will have to go and get one when we are there.

It looks like there's parking allowed on Fulbeck Avenue, Kj, which is close enough to the club site as motorhomes are parked on the side of the road there. We could park there over Easter if our seasonal pitch is unusable and still use the site facilities for water, waste etc. Having paid the club £1300, surely the warden wouldn't mind us coming into the site to get water etc. We'll just have to manage without EHU. However, from what we have been told, the wardens are going to try everything possible to get our pitch ready by 30th March. They have a non-awning pitch available for 29th night if necessary.

The road outside the site is Titnore Way. Turning left out of the site entrance along Titnore Way, there's a roundabout. Fulbeck Avenue starts from that roundabout leading to the roundabout with Fulbeck Way at the end of which is The Durrington Tesco Extra.

They can still cancel a seasonal pitch or even close a site down and refund money even if you are already in occupation of it, according to their T&Cs, in the event of an emergency such as flooding of the site.

Yes they could cancel it, but what will you do if you move off after 21 days, only to return 2 days later to be told, sorry ground too wet and no hardstanding left, no problem we will refund you but you will have to find another site. Do other seasonal users move off every 21 days, or do they simply leave the caravan unoccupied,

In my experiance the only time i have seen seasonal pitches vacated is if the member was going to have a holiday or needed to go elsewhere for a time,or towards the end of the season when the site is quieter and the warden wants to repair the long term seasonal pitch ready for the next year and may use other pitches on the short term

It doesn't make any difference whether you leave the caravan on the pitch or move it off for two nights. If the pitch becomes unusable, they will ask you to return to the site and remove your caravan from the pitch. They will then refund the £5.60 per night of unusable. Finding you another site is not an obligation for them. That's your problem according to what we were told by the warden.

People usually book a seasonal pitch to avoid towing their van as much, so In pretty much all cases the van would stay on site and the occupants come and go.  I would expect the van is only moved off if they wish to use it elsewhere.

Yes, it nearly happened to us in Gatwick once, in winter, when even the hardstanding pitches were flooding. The warden warned us that if the rain continued for one more day, the site would be closed and all occupants refunded unused site fees and told to move off.

If it were anyone other than you Malcolm, I would think you were having me on!!

You are seriously proposing that you plan to park on a residential, and probably quite busy street, and sleep at the side of the road?

I would book that last nonawning pitch while it is still available!

Looks like a hotel there maybe?  And the rear of some houses?  A community centre or something?  Then Tesco.

Now, if it were "over there" Tesco would probably welcome you into their car park for the night!

Seriously.......you really need a back up plan.

And I would not assume that the warden would be happy with you driving onto the site to fetch water and dump waste.

Huskydog, if there was flooding in your house, you would have to move out of your house too and become homeless!

Our mobile home is our home and we simply need the CMC to provide us with a pitch to park it on and I am  paying them from my hard earned money to make such a provision! It's hardly rocket science, is it?

c/vIf we had a flood in our house we would pull our touring caravan out of storage onto our local cc site until it was sortedsmile, and as Husky says it would be our house insurance picking up the billwink
