What are you all up to

I am getting ready for our possible Wembley visit, and World Cup. Made myself a footie hat, a nod to the 1960’s Mod roundel. If England fail to deliver, I can easily transfer my (mercenary) allegiance to France🤭🤣

Hopefully everyone had a good Christmas, even though some people seem to have been suffering a bit, fingers crossed all is well now.
We have had a great, if busy, few days with our family. They left around lunchtime today so we have been in rest and recovery mode this afternoon. It was so lovely to see them all.
Off for a walk in the Wolds. I stayed at home to start the ‘Christmas’ dinner.
Son and OH checking they are heading the right direction!! 😂

I hope your sciatica soon clears up @Takethedogalong and you can get out into your garden and make use of your new gardening tools. Like you new bobble hat!😆
Interesting photos @RedKite and good to read that you have got over your upset stomach.
Pleased to hear that have made a booking for the New Year @Francis to make use of your free night. We too have made a booking, for March at a site we have not visited before, to take advantage of the offer.

Aftet a very short shower this morning the day stayed dry if rsther cloudy. We did a circular walk near Over Peover today which took us past this rather unusual home.
Then during my afternoon walk, from the site, I found another, appropriately called The Mill!

Some of you might recall me mentioning about the sale of the Rothbury Estate, which is where the old Nunnykirk Club Site used to be. There’s an article in today’s Guardian about the Northumberland Wildlife Trust who are trying to raise funds to buy the land. Thought it might be of interest to some, mainly centres around the Trust’s hopes in keeping the landscape safe, but interesting nevertheless. A truly beautiful area, the Trust already owns part of the Simonside Hills. Mentions some of the disinformation floating around as well, but I for one hope that the NWT manage to take over the landscape. Be great if the campsite re opened again, possibly the most peaceful larger site we have ever visited.

Spent most of yesterday morning either at Hull Royal or travelling. It's about an hour each way from here and an absolute pain to find somewhere to park - but I was lucky and found the last remaining disabled bay, not too far away. I came away feeling a bit frustrated. Didn't see the Consultant this time - but his young Registrar - who although very nice and extremely professional left me feeling that I was telling him more about me than he was! He has ruled out surgery because of the sheer number of joints affected by arthritis - so basically I don't have much choice but to put up with it. He recommended physio and the 'pain management team' - so we will see where we go from there.
Another exciting week in store next week🙄 - back to HRI to see the vascular consultant on Monday - Bridlington Hospital on Tuesday for the pain management meeting and all of Wednesday afternoon taken up in Hornsea with X-rays, blood tests and ECG.
Think I feel a caravan trip coming on soon😁.

It's rough getting older @richardandros. Good luck next week.
Took the ladies down to a local country park this morning. Cleared the sinuses as they say. Mil did really well considering she's 93 in a few months.
Came across this frightening sight on the walk. Don't fancy doing it at night.🤣
Just been out to deliver a parcel in the village. Brrrr
I hope 2026 is kind to CT members. Good luck and best wishes to one and all.

So sorry to hear that your hospital appointment yesterday didn't go as you had hoped @richardandros I hope next week brings better news for you. OH has an appointment at Hinchinbrook Hospital next week about his mobility (or lack of it) and at the moment has high hopes but I have my doubts sadly. As @Wherenext says it is rough getting older.
We have local son and DIL coming over this evening and they are bringing an Indian takeaway. It is from a local Punjabi family who occasionally, on special occasions, cook takeaways so it is authentic Indian food. It won't be a late night though as we don't wait to see the old year out and the New Year in these days.
I don't like the look of your photo @Wherenext It is quite frightening!!
I wish all on here a very happy, peaceful and healthy New Year and hope that 2026 is good to all of us.

It's been a busy but lovely Christmas, pacing ourselves in between. I'm preparing to look after the gransons, 4 and 15 months, again tomorrow - had them Saturday
Double changeovers at the holiday lets. It's easier than bed changing, up to 10 🫣 and cleaning....... Then I feed all after so that's 6 adults plus boys.
VVery Cold here today. When i got out in the open with Dora i had to check i had dressed 🫣🥶
JJust popped on to wish all a happy and healthy 2026.
I hope all those who are under the weather or recovering a speedy return to full health. Sorry @richardandros that your visit didn't offer 'a cure'.
Keep posting I enjoy the reading and photos.

@richardandros Sorry to hear that you are not perhaps getting the answers you want. Hopefully the Pain Clinic will provide some help. If they are more successful at managing the pain perhaps that will ease some of the mobility issues?

Sorry to read that you don't seem to have progressed forward too much with your arthritis problems @richardandros but hope you get better news from your next round of hospital visits.
Thanks for that link @Takethedogalong it makes for interesting reading. Maybe the site will open at a future date.
We returned to Brereton Heath for today's walks and came across this unusual carving.
All the very best to each and everyone for a healthy and enjoyable 2026. Happy New Year!!

We are having a quiet evening, we will stay up to welcome in the New Year, and to watch a short film on STV directed by Son-in-law’s sister, I believe she also appears in it. Her husband is quite a well known TV director, also does films, and lectures on the subject at various universities up here, which is how they met.
Otherwise, we were out yesterday for some provisions and dropped in past DD’s with some stuff she needed, had lunch with them, and stayed for a few hours for me to help her with some DIY.
Had a nice dinner today, a Dine In from a well known store, and have also bought dinner for tomorrow, then it will be back to whatever is in the freezer, we need to eat enough out of it to be able to defrost it.
Happy New Year to all of you!

Thank you all for your kind wishes. Yes, it is rough getting older - but it's better than the alternative😉.
Fabulous carving @nelliethehooker - must have taken ages to complete that - I wonder what the story is, behind it? You certainly have a knack for finding some interesting things on your walks - as do you @Wherenext !
I managed to wash both cars yesterday morning (haven't been done for ages because of the hosepipe ban) but it was freezing cold and Ros's car - in the shade - was freezing over as fast as I sprayed water on it. Listening to the rain on the windows at the moment, it sounds more like hail so perhaps we're in for an interesting couple of days.
Best wishes to everyone for a happy and healthy New Year😀

@richardandros Hope all goes well for your medical trips and you can get some results.
Too cold here for car washing as cars really need it but it was minus 5.8C overnight and only got to 3C this afternoon now back to minus again and going foggy as well just had enough of this as nothing can be done outside and another week to go also could be colder and maybe some sleet/snow next week brr.
Shopping tomorrow and a change of scenery, probably in my car as it is parked under a carport and sheltered.
Also very interesting with the carving @nelliethehooker and hope it is not to cold where you are.

Hope you get some useful advice about your arthritis @richardandros, not easy for you at the moment.
Fireworks around us last night were awful, worse than Bonfire Night😡 Neighbours elderly dog was in a very bad way, fitting and terrified. We loathe fireworks.
We have had a nice couple of days here so far, decent dry weather, but it’s bitterly cold outside today. I got away from Mum’s early yesterday, and had a nice couple of hours on my happy place, the garden. Starting to get it ready for Spring now, loads of bulbs coming up, and some of the roses are still flowering, along with other stuff that really shouldn’t be throwing out buds and growth🤔🥴 Headed out today as well, but the cold has beaten me, it’s very very cold out there. So I am back inside now, finished off a gorgeous present from my Sister, a handmade Harris Tweed needle roll, just eater some very nice soup made by OH, and now about to get our evening meal sorted. OH has got bikes sorted out for tomorrow, we are hoping to have a bit of a ride around the traffic free roads/paths at Clumber. We shall both have about five layers on and I have said “no mud”. We shall see🤭

We have had some rain showers this afternoon, one of which Flyte and I got caught in, the first since we came to East Cheshire 10 days ago. It is clear at the moment but getting quite cool. I hope it doesn't freeze overnight as we head home tomorrow before the bad weather sets in. @RedKite it has not been cold up to now but things look to be changing.
@richardandros I don't know the story behind the sculpture but have sent an email to the local ranger service asking the question. I will keep you updated. Our car needs a really good clean but thst may well have to wait for a while as I don't like it too cold when working outside. Guess it is an age thing as I didn't used to bother too much when I was working down the shipyard berth.
Enjoy your ride tomorrow @Takethedogalong it would be a shame it the weather deteriorated enough to stop you going.
This is another smart house which I passed on my afternoon walk today, Marton Hall, a private dwelling.

We had the same experience as you with fireworks @Takethedogalong They started mid evening on New Year's Eve and carried on until about 12.30. It was like World War III out there. The noise was horrendous. I had to stay up with our cat who was terrified. She still won't go outside on her own. I took a walk on New Year day to wish Happy New Year to a few people and as I walked across the playing field opposite us it was full of debris from fireworks. I too hate fireworks. One of our grandsons was badly burned by a sparkler which slipped out of his hand a few years ago and had to go to Chelmsford hospital for a skin graft and still has the scar. I have campaigned for years against fireworks to no avail the only response from the government is that the necessary safeguards are in place!
What a lovely house @nelliethehooker I would love to to be the person who privately owns it.
Bitterly cold here with a very hard frost and icy roads and pavements this morning

Re fireworks we were exactly the opposite here. We heard about 3 or 4 whoosh’s and that was early evening, nothing at all at midnight. Does that mean we are a caring village or a load of miserable people I wonder?! 🫣🤔. Our son’s second wife is from the Philippines and they went to her family in Manila for New Year - he sent us a video of the celebrations there from the roof terrace it would make London fireworks look like a small side show! Horrendous to us but hey ho, different cultures and all that.
We had a short, chilly walk around Sutton Bank today. Beautiful day.
This is me wrapped up like Nanook of the North.6 -
I quite like a good firework display but then I don't have pets. We watched the London display on a recording and it reminded me of Millennium night when we went down to see them live. I think London is a wonderful backdrop for such a display along the River.
I have mixed views on private fireworks as it depends how responsible people are, some are more so than others? Whilst I understand New Year fireworks being late I am not sure why people let off random fireworks late into the night at other times of the year?

I am guessing Switzerland will be taking a closer look at their firework legislation. All those lives lost, lives ruined for a few Sparklers, utterly tragic, utterly preventable. Like you Millie, we have long tried to get more done. OH used to see the very worst of Bonfire Night every year.
Broke our cycling drought today with a nice ride around Clumber. Bitter cold though. We had to ride along some roads normally closed to car traffic, and there were some very ignorant drivers around, little idea of driving on narrow roads with children, dogs, walkers and cyclists around. Better once we got away from there, very enjoyable, a very cold but bright sunny day.
On the bridge.
The Ford! No, he didn’t, way too deep at the moment. 🤣
7 -
I recognise that Ford @Takethedogalong we have walked past there on a fair number of occasions, and I have ventured through it on my bike when it was a lot lower than that. Glad you had a good day out.
It looks as if you went in the right direction @heddlo as road conditions have been quite difficult with snow and ice over on the east.
There were quite a lot of fireworks let off in the Congleton area, but they were far enough away from our site so not to bother us too much. We woke to find the car's windscreen frozen up again but it was soon cleared. The sun was out all day but the temperature never rose to above 5C, and there was a very chilly wind. We had a trouble free drive back home, although there was a two mile long queue of traffic trying to get onto the M6 from the South Lakes. Van all cleared out and numerous rounds of washing done.

Such a wonderful view @heddlo on a beautiful clear day.

Lovely view @heddlo. A little late but Happy New Year everyone. Son, DIL and recovering dog, a springer, came to us for three days over New Year. We said it’s 25 years now since they came to us on their own. Grandson still in Australia and the other two were out with boyfriend and friends, also both had to be at home for work, it did seem strange without them though. We went to my brothers for a few hours on NY eve, his family were all there so a good catch up. Recovering dog was drugged up, vets advice, to stop her racing around and doing more damage, massive wound and big stitches. We went to the beach for a walk, dog on a lead, she wasn’t happy about that. But it was so cold, we were all dressed up like Eskimos but when that icy wind comes off the Atlantic you really know about it, we didn’t stay too long.
I’ve managed to get the chest freezer right down ready for lots of batch cooking later this week, winter casseroles, soups and I’ve got a good chicken curry recipe, easier to batch cook that as it takes a while. Good job I took my prescription in to GPs a bit early as now 3 weeks in the pharmacy and it’s still not ready, I think they manufacture my pills in there.

Happy New Year everyone. Had our first snow of the winter this morning.
Had my hospital appointment at 0830 this morning, all went well, had 3 lumps from my back removed. Can’t lift or for 3 weeks so that’s put the kibosh on our planned trip next week.Stay safe all

Well - the forecasters have certainly got the weather right, this time! It's been snowing really hard since about 0600 and it's about 4" deep in places. Bitterly cold as well. And - it seems to be limited to the immediate coastal area since Beverley, which is only about 12 miles away, doesn't have any. Meg had a lovely time romping around in the park in it, this morning😀.

Awoke to a dusting of snow and VERY LOW temperatures.
Happy New Year to all, just distracting myself with a pop on here before emptying kitchen cupboards and setting up temporary kitchen in the utility room. Kitchen refit starts Wednesday.
Took the Christmas decorations down yesterday, early for us,as we like them up for our wedding anniversary on the 5th. It'll be the 1st one without.
Had a lovely walk, my foot allows me to set off from the front door now 🤞, I haven't done this walk for about a year...... The air is really clear, fantastic view over The Fens, almost to King's Lynn 🤣🤣. Photos only on my phone,so you'll have to zoom in for detail. I see this field from our bedroom window, access is through as grass meadow and the footpath well used and tge clay, even as dust, balls on your footwear if the grass is damp, so it was a delight and solid this morning.

Cold here! Sitting in the car waiting for Carol to come out from 'Slimming World' !! I bet they're all having a hard time of it, being just after Christmas and New Year..... 😃
We've had a light dusting of snow, or very heavy frost... not really sure which!!!. Had to defrost the car first thing, and now I'm intermittently firing up the car engine to try and extract a bit of heat. Fortunately, not long left to wait!!
Tonight is our annual 'caravanning group' get together… a group of caravanning friends from church who always go out together in caravans (and some in tents) for a week in May (including the MayDay BH Weekend). No doubt we'll end up at Conkers CCC site again... 😃😃

@richardandros no snow here in South Yorks, but it is really cold. Mum’s for me this morning, hopefully an early getaway. Not a cloud in the sky here. Birthday presen5 hunting at the moment, we have three this month, 2 SILs and a niece. I am ok with the female birthdays, it’s the males I struggle with.

@DEBSC Have you considered Pharmacy 2YOU online service for prescriptions? We have been using them for a couple of months now and quite impressed. We order online as normal and rather than being sent to a local pharmacy its sent to Pharmacy2You. They post it and Royal Mail text you when it will be delivered which is usually pretty quick. We no longer have to worry about getting to a local pharmacy and so far they have always had things in stock. Some of their meds are generic.
