We are happily sweltering in 30° C in Sunny Southern Austria.   Beds all changed, washing done and nearly dry in an hour.

Now sitting out under canopy with a little breeze watching the campsites 5 sheep grazing in the paddock below, no sounds but the birds. Heaven.

After a spot of lunch will be off up a mountain for a nice ice cream at the Hotel the only building up there except for lovely little old church.

Have another 5 days here before we move 90 miles up to below Salzburg.

At 255 miles it is further than I like doing in a day, however certainly doable. The roads are very good and fast the whole way, so you should manage it in 7 hours including stops. So if you can get away for 10 am you should be there for 5 ish. Oh I forgot about the roadworks approaching Scotch Corner but hopefully not to bad mid week.

Services on A1 are not good. Nice CL not far from Scotch Corner, direct off A66 travelling West. Owners don't mind late arrivals, if you let them know beforehand. Browson Bank, probably under Richmond.

Maybe I can get to Gretna for an overnight stop then! That would be good because it would mean only about two and a half hours drive next morning to reach Garlieston.smile

The sun's come out again this afternoon but luckily the wind is keeping it reasonably cool. cool I fell asleep in the relaxer after lunch, then the heat from the sun woke me up, so I'm back in the caravan now, with the windows all wide open and plenty of breeze coming in.

Are you planning to do that in the one day then, Malcolm?

The A17 to the A1 is rather a slow road.

Also, as Steve says, there are some awful roadworks on the A1 leading up to the A66 - there was about 5 miles of north bound queuing when we were coming back from Newcastle on Friday.

We spotted the CL next to the A66 (just after you turn off the A1) on our way to the Lakes the other week - looks nice and handy.

I'm booked to arrive at Garlieston on 1st June. I don't have any booking for 31st night. So I think it gives me plenty of time to cover the total 345 miles wherever I stop for the night, so the roadwork delays shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Fast roads maybe depends on route if its via the A17 cry

Currently sat at St Malo waiting to board our ferry. French security much tighter then in the past, presumably due to the problems they have had in France rather than the U.K.

Bit of excitement coming into St Malo at rush hour. Although we have been here before, several times, we took a wrong slip road onto what obviously was a rat run, wide at first but deteriorating. Not knowing what was round the next bend I decided to go no further and found a place where I could reverse and turn. However, no one would give me a chance, just too high a volume of French on there way home. In the end after almost getting the car whacked when I swung slightly to start the turn, I decided to use the mover. So we unhitched and stood in the way until they would let us move it into the side lane, where I could hitch up. Most were fairly understanding when they realised what was happening, but not all.

Anyway we had allowed plenty of time so no real problem. Now very nice sat here in the sun.

Thought I'd be clever and take our 12N plug to bits as we'd had a problem with the indicators earlier in the week. Well, they're easy to take apart but as for putting it back together .... what a performance just getting all the pins lined up and the plug back in one piece! surprised

Anyway, good news ...indicators fine now ....bad news ....brake light doesn't work now (think the red wire's worked loose!) So that's tomorrow's first job - at least I haven't got to take the ******** thing apart this time! yell

We drive from East Norfolk to Appleby in one hop, takes about 6 hours with stops.  We have 2 drivers so not too bad.  Rest of the trip will be small hops.laughing

Often thought about those (THS) BB, if I did a mini tour of an area and could link two or three together,as you say without the need of booking and staying onsite for as long as we wanted depending what is in the area , need to get someone to manage the shop wink

tied to my computer screen marking, but I do keep getting calls from 'Microsoft' saying there is a virus on my computer and they will 'fix' it for me free. What a great company it is! Anyway I keep them talking as along as possible playing the ignorant IT illiterate ( do you need the computer switched on?.... how do you do that again?... sorry the fn key where is that?...) At least it keeps them busy with me rather than someone who might be taken in. I then put on my police voice and say they have been tracked. Probably doesn't scare them a bit!

Nice crossing last night, flat as a mill pond. Passed a very stealthy looking warship entering Portsmouth and several more being fitted out. Currently in one of Malcolm's favourite haunts Newbury services, killing time, as earliest arrivals at Cirencester is 12 noon. Almost time to set off, as it is about 50 mins from here.

We have had 3 of those calls this morning cornersteady. One of them could hardly speak English and the line was very poor.  How would anyone think that is genuine. Unfortunately I am very aware that some are taken in which is very sad.

Hi folks, back onto decent wifi so thought I'd drop in and say hello. We had a lovely week at Lake Annecy but time to move on, although we haven't moved far as we are now at Lake Geneva. Got here at 11.30am after a nice untroubled drive. Smallish site but has everything we need even a swimming pool. Weather has been outstanding for the last 2 weeks hovering in the high 20's to the low 30's. Much more clouds today but still very hot and sticky so we might be in for a thunderstorm. Not sure what the cycling is like here but I doubt it will be as good as Annecy where it is all flat and dedicated cycle paths, it looks a bit hilly here and so far have not seen a cycle path. Still got 3 weeks left so lots more to see and do.

Hope everyone is having a good time out and about (haven't caught up yet on posts)

Lovely to hear from you Tammy.  It sounds as though you are having a wonderful time.

OP, Geoff Hamilton's garden at Barnsdale is well worth a visit.

Lovely man and lovely gardens.  His grave in Exton churchyard is also worth a visit.  It is in such a lovely position overlooking the fields.  Exton is a very nice village as well - very good pub laughing

Now just over the German border on a site on the shores of Chiemsee. Very hot and humid.  All sites here very busy.  Moving on north tomorrow as the road past the site is busy and far too noisy for our liking.

Lots of holidays here in May/June, so finding "ACSI sites" is getting more tricky.

Guess what! I've done it. I got all the way to Garlieston in Scotland from the National in one day! No need for overnight motorway stop. We're settled in our pitch. Now we can enjoy 3 nights here instead of 2! I'm feeling so much fun in my life now!
