Hi brue, OH remembers Mr. Holly and said there used to be a roof garden at Lewis's I did not know about that.
OH back home 8.35am after blood test as weather is cold could not get any out of arm so back of hand looks odd with white plaster on it he said it will come off before going out again pm.
Had strong winds overnight but no rain but very dull outside now.

Well after 5 weeks of suffering with first a flu type bug and then a severe chest infection, which almost put me in hospital, we both started to brighten up at the weekend. Still not breathing properly and both very tired but well on the mend. The only person we have really been in contact with in the last couple of weeks is our teenage granddaughter. After which she reported she had a cold. Guess what! This morning I’m sneezing and snuffling. Hope it doesn’t last long. Guess our immune system just hasn’t been tested enough in the last year or so.

Hope you feel better soon Debsc, we've had prolonged infections like yours in the past, in fact I remember when many in our village were laid low for weeks. I suppose variations of these viruses move amongst us all the time.

Had some good news about my passport, my application along with phone photo has been accepted. We were discussing this on here not long ago as my photo had been deemed "poor" but I objected. I might not look like Audrey Hepburn but the photo did look like me! Glad I ignored the automated response. OH says " just wait till you see it.....

Cloudy morning here so just catching up on things.
Hope your hospital app goes well KJ
Glad you had a good weekend Francis, even if it was cold and snowy, it's nice to get a change of scenery.
We've booked our day 2 PCR tests ready for our return in 10 days time. They should be at home waiting for us. £35pp wasn't bad considering what some folks are paying. We are doing LFTs that we brought with us regularly and not mixing close up with others.
They are much stricter here than back home, you will be told off if not wearing a mask when you should. Restaurants have tables spread out more and lots of wiping down and hand sanitizers are in use everywhere.
Though we have been coming to the island for years we still find lots of things to do and new places to explore. Weather not as good as when we come in March but still warm enough to go out in shorts and T shirts during the day.
We watched those going home this week queueing up this morning to book their tests, it was a very long queue and took over 2 hours just to book the app. goodness knows how long it's going to take them to do the tests. Think we might look at booking apps in town.

That's ridiculous AD. I know the airlines are struggling but still...
Waiting to hear from the bike company. Supposed to pick up my e-bike today. Don't want to leave it until the awful weather arrives tomorrow. If not today then it will be Thursday probably.
Nothing much else happening hereabouts. Seem to be collecting Christmas Cards from various neighbours to deliver for them. That's the problem with being younger than your neighbours.

I think the things you are talking about are for those who are younger not us older folk who are mainly not for turning, whereas younger folk tend to think of the future more deeply so can actually impact this Planet in a positive way👍🏻

Feeling a lot relieved after a very frustrating weekend. Got 4 letters on Saturday morning about my forthcoming surgery on an aneurysm in my knee. Only saw the surgeon last week but he told me the following day that I was booked in for mid January.
The letters on Saturday said the date had been changed but that I had to attend for a pre-Op assessment (four days after the Op!), a vein scan (two weeks after the Op!) and a pre-hospital Covid test (a month after the Op!!!). Clearly someone had got a few wires crossed but there was nothing I could do about it being a Saturday. Plus the change of date would mean our Christmas trip to Sandringham, which has been booked for almost a year, would have to be cancelled. What made it worse was that someone had gone to the trouble of marking all the relevant dates with a green highlighter pen without realising they were absolute nonsense.
Managed to get hold of his Secretary this morning who was so kind and understanding and had it all sorted within 20 minutes - reverting back to the January date which put all the appointments back in the correct order!
I have found clinicians within the NHS to be absolutely outstanding but this isn't the first time that I have experienced a complete dog's breakfast on the admin side.

Re the passport. We had the same with Margaret's as her photo was rated as poor on the application and we have had confirmation today that the passport has been accepted and is in progress. Like you I added a note as to why I thought the photo was acceptable. My photo was rated as fair but as yet I have not had any indication of whether it has been accepted although I do have confirmation they have the application.

AD I worked in Admin for the NHS for many years and yes we worked incredibly hard and did our very best but we were often let down by the IT system. The phrase 'you get what you pay for' often sprang to mind and I suspect that it still the case.

As some of you might be aware son is in HDU at present (3weeks and counting) op was a success but can't get him off the intubation! I was due to get a booster jab on the outskirts of town at rush hour, a nurse specialist organised a jab at the hospital easy! My OH had an ultra sound scan later in the week, we managed to get it done today thank you NHS.
2 -
Glad you and your OH got your booster jabs robsail. Good old NHS. Hopefully better news about your son soon. Best wishes.
1 -
Best of wishes to you, robsail, for a steady recovery for your son, and pleased to go read that the NHS was able to give you your booster and your OH's scan done earlier than originally projected.

One quite damp walk, first thing, but thankfully me managed our others without getting wet, although we did have a heavy hail shower around lunch time. Still I was able to clear out the gutters at the back of the house before and after lunch. This boy certainly knows how to live!

We got our Christmas decs out of the loft at the weekend and decided it was time to downsize them. We had 3 artificial trees up there so we took the decision that we didn't want the really large one anymore so took it to our local Sue Ryder shop today along with some other not needed decs. We always used to have a 6ft real tree but not for the last few years. We now just have 2 smaller artificial ones - one in the front room window and one in the dining room. We then went to the post office to post our parcel to N. Ireland and get the stamps for our cards. So 2 good jobs got out of the way. It teamed with rain all morning but was a relatively dry afternoon. The weather forecast for tomorrow doesn't look too good.

The Very Best of Wishes to You and Family , Robsail, May all of your problems become smaller as time passes.
It is quite amazing how person A has difficulty dealing with different units of the NHS whilst person B can float through as if they have a blooming magic wand.

P.S. , Robsail ~~ I am not criticizing you or anybody else ~~ i was just thinking about how things turn out, that is all
.As promised yesterday I got out to the nearest M & S and purchased some bags of nice green sprouts, one for myself and three [ of the chocolate variety ] for small folks in their approach to the teenage years
.Now I am about to down load oodles of phone numbers onto this bleep bleep bleeping telephone that BT has kindly told me is to replace my copper-wired landline and become a Digital Voice thingy over my Broadband instead and will need the full number including code grrrrrrrrr !

Robsail hadn't realised your son was on HDU ward, very worrying, thinking of you all and all good wishes for a steady recovery for your son.
Milliehull getting our decorations down from tge loft was on our agenda today, sadly it didn't happen. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. I don't want to put them up yet but I do want to do the front windows.
Was a misty to foggy start here as it got light, so damp long walk. I then went on a round Robin of odd tasks, bought my Christmas stamps at our local Post office, 2 windows, full capacity, open and I still had to queue for 5 minutes, all very spaced out and masked. Shocked at the cost, haven't kept up with postage prices! OH posted the cards on his walk, it was dry for him but we had heavy rain for several hours in what should have been our lightest part of the day!
I had to go to pets at home to collect Dora's food, she's never been a good eater and I went there for advice on the recommendation of our dog groomer. New food is expensive, there's a surprise - but throwing out partially eaten food is expensive too, birds and fox enjoyed it. She's been on it for 10 days and is eating fairly enthusiastically by her standards. 🤞🤞 They didn't have one item in stock last week and as I don't want to chance my luck yet on buying large quantities They ordered it for me. If the regime continues well I'll have it delivered to our door. That was the end of my success, 2 shops I popped into didn't inspire me so I gave up. All gifts purchased anyway except for OH but we have agreed as neither of us wants/needs anything it'll be a charity donation. What we want is what we are unlikely to receive - a peaceful stress free process of acquiring a new home with little disruption 😂😂, still it's by choice not because our conditions are dreadful that we have to flee, so things could be so much worse.
Dentist for us both in the morning and if I receive an awaited phone call early enough we'll drive out to collect an old marble clock following repairs, it lived at my parents home for at least 40 years after they were given it by a friend, it stopped working before mum died and I was given it as I liked it, but it was so heavy I never got round to getting it repaired. Be nice to have it on our mantlepiece. If not that will be a job for later in the week.
I hope folks have battened down the hatches in anticipation of storm Barra - May it blow through without causing injury and destruction. Stay safe folks.

Bakers - I don't know if it's any help to you but I have, in the past, found THIS website useful. It's run by an animal nutritionist and not funded by any of the manufacturers - so the advice is impartial. Although I used to support my local (Beverley!) pet shop simply because it's a small business, I now buy Meg's food on-line and make quite significant savings plus next day delivery. I don't suppose I can mention the name but it's something to do with a zoo + !

richardandros thanks, I'll have a read.
I too tried to support our local company, but found the staff unhelpful and unfriendly. They've been trading for generations, started as farmers and miillers, now have a farm shop, not as we now think of them but supplies for animals from horses to chickens and everything in between! Tried the vets too, expensive and not a great success after the initial hmm nice for a couple of meals. Touch wood this new stuff, dried and some freeze dried meat and veg chunks too is a great hit.
Beautiful sunrise this morning, thermometer says cold but its still at the moment and no visible frost. Pegged my bedding out hopefully it will dry but if not 'hazel' it. Love that expression, it should smell naturally wonderful. No I wasn't up crazy early, stripped it yesterday but OH helpfully put it on to wash, whilst I was out with the dog, in the pouring rain! Can't win bless him he did as he was asked, finished stripping the bed - but took it to the next stage, normally I'd be very grateful , but hey ho it's sat in the linen basket in tge warm so drying process has already started!
Enjoy your day folks

Very stormy here, had a shower early in case we lose power. OH has gone to collect some things from the vet and taken some pictures to the charity shop (in a nearby village.) Talked to son who is waiting for roof repairs after previous NE storm, grandson is at home as school was badly damaged so only half the school in, possibly til February. Son has just started new job and somehow child care will have to be jiggled around again. Just hope there are no more problems up that way but it looks like snow for some.
B2, we buy dog food on line, our dog is tiny but doesn't eat like visiting terrier does....if he sees food he eats it! It might be that he was tied up all day on a travellers site before being rescued and won't ever miss a chance for food. Our dog grazes, we put food down and she gradually eats it. (This goes haywire when her terrier pal arrives.
) They are all different aren't they, hope you find what is needed.Managed to get cards done yesterday. One thing sorted.

We have cranked up the wifi this morning😂 might just get to say a quick hello, and send best wishes to all. We had a power cut last night. Little Miss Organised proudly produced the candles..... but had forgotten the matches, and electric hobs don’t work in a power cut to light a bit of paper🤣 Our kind host checked we were ok and brought some, but everything restored after only 5 minutes, and nothing since so all fine.
Last two days have been lovely. Bitter cold outside, but after a brief shower each morning, things have cleared up nicely. So much to do on the doorstep, Birdoswald Fort on Sunday, yesterday we walked up to Housesteads, today will be either Vindolanda or The Sill, both in walking distance. Sky outside is looking ominous at the moment, we could get snow I think....Meanwhile, photo of our favourite ablutions block, at Housesteads, and the view from the top of the Fort looking South East
Bakers......Branston the Spaniel belongs to cottage owner. Friendly little soul, he comes to check we are all ok every morning. He left a doggy welcome pack for Rieves, a new ball, some poo bags and some biscuits.

OH was wondering if you had seen Jon Snow up on The Wall yet?

Sounds as if you are having an interesting time up there. Hope you miss the worst of the storm.

Feeling the force of storm Barra today, managed to get out with pup before serious rain started, quite a few ships sheltering in the Solent, IOW has some uses, wind speed expected to be 50-60 mph later today, just retrieved the re-cycling bin from bottom of the garden, but other than that all good, could just be hunkering down for the afternoon with good read

Tda that sounds like a great place where you are and enjoy the rest of your holiday great name for a spaniel Branston, great photos too.
Well we had started to get sorted here for xmas as friends had invited us around for xmas day and said we will just do a nibbles and drink sometime nearer to xmas as wanted to be home for xmas well laid plans etc had a phone call from our friends at Obterre as we had mentioned if they could not get anybody for xmas/new period we could go so had a call from their friends last night to say she has tested for covid even with all jabs so no isolating for 10 days at home and will not be able to come over, hence we are now going next week for just over 3 weeks but staying in their gite no caravan so a bit more space and they will give a large food package including all xmas day goodies. so WN you will know where we are over the festive season not sure if they have folk staying or not but will find out next week and they will decorate the gite for us so now a few days of sorting things out here glad OH has got doctors in Thursday so he will be ok for medication.
Take care folks and stay safe.

Enjoy Obterre RK. MiL has dropped the odd suggestion that I might like to take her to a gite in France next year as she is feeling a bit careful about any river cruises, what with sharing space etc. Can you let me know if the gite has a walk in shower. MiL can't climb into a bath. She needs ground floor facilities but quite fit and healthy otherwise. I was thinking that the area around Obterre is far enough to get to and has some interesting places to get to. She'll probably choose Yorkshire again though.😂
Blowing a hoolie here. Bins flying everywhere. We can't get through to the NHS covid pass telephone number to try to get MiL a covid pass. Her phone is just an old fashioned PAYG so paperwork needed. She's worried that she won't be able to get out to see her friends for their regular lunch meet up.
Had to postpone picking the bike up yesterday as it wasn't going to be ready until nearly 5 pm so told them we would pick it up on Thursday or Friday.
Had a trip to M&S in the outlet village near "Chester" CAMC site. Thought it would be heaving but I need some stuff only they have. As it turned out it was fine. Less foot traffic than normal and even an empty till when needed.

Best wishes to Robsail, whose travails seem endless. Have they given you any idea of timescale for how long your son will be in HDU?
It is strange how different parts of the NHS can seem good in one place and poor in another. Our health board has been placed in "targeted intervention" whatever that may encompass due to inefficiencies so we tend to get a mixture of both good and poor practice. Nice to hear that Robsail had some positive actions from his own board.
