They are certainly increasing in the North West 😊

We saw a raven this afternoon locally, and 2 dippers on the stream, plus all the usual birds on the garden feeders.

    { Not  Joking  Here  !! }

For  some  reason  the  birds  seem  to  have  taken

exception  to  the  seeds,  fat  balls  &  slabs  I'm  putting

out  at  the  moment.  I  Had  to  remove  the  fat

balls  from  their  feeder,  crush  them  into  seed-sized

pieces  &  put  them  on  the  ground  feeding  trays,

even  then  it's  taken  a  few  days  for  the  Town Pigeon

    Flock  to  clear  them  away.

So  I  think  it's  going  to  be  'Starvation  Rations'  For

a  week,  to  remind  'em  of  what  they  are  supposed

    to  be  doing  !!

That seems to be the case too here, near Hereford. I put out a fat ball, a feeder 3/4 full of seeds and a prepared 1/2 coconut shell and a seed try on the ground when we arrived on site 2 days ago. Within 30 mins there was a Great Tit investigating the feeder, and since then all we've seen are a couple of Great Tits & a Robin, and very little of the seeds have been eaten. Wonder where they've all gone, as we are close to the edge of a wood?

Great photo R2B but spoiled by the useless photo software on this website.

A beautiful sunny but cold day today which seems to have bought a few birds into the garden and the feeders, starlings, blackbirds enjoying the apples and suet block, goldfinches enjoying the nyjer and sunflower hearts, robin also enjoying the sunflower hearts and suet block, dunnocks (3), checking out the ground at the bottom of the feeding station, wren scurrying around the flower pots and containers, in an out of the shrubs and around the pond, collared doves feeding from the wild bird seed and around the garden also the wood pigeons, crow checking out "Christmas scraps", blue tits eating a sunflower heart or two then checking out two of our nest boxes spending a little time in one and the surprise of the day - 3 pied wagtails checking around the garden looking for goodies.  The wagtails being a "rare" and welcome visitor to our garden.

I've been outside, looking at the night sky. It's very clear in our area just now. There is a beautiful view of the planet Venus in the SW, near the horizon.

I hadn't realised that when you enlarged the photo that it still didn't show you the whole thing. I agree with you OneP, both about the software and about Rocky's photo. As this is supposed to be one the main enhancements of the new website it doesn't seem one of Santas best prezzies.

Quite an interesting day, although nothing startling. Last night as we were on our last walk I heard at least 3 Tawny Owls calling to each other  in the woods behind the van. Then what sounded like a fox barking as we went to bed. This morning the first sound was of a Woodpecker hammering away. On our walks we saw, as well as the usual Blackbirds & Blueys, Robins and Wrens, we spotted 3 GSW chasing each other, hundreds of Fieldfares and Redwings feeding on the apple trees in an orchard watched over by a imperious Buzzard, and on the way back to the van a  couple of Bullfinches and a Treecreeper.smile

Moved today to near Upton. Put out the feeders etc once we'd set up and have had more birds around already than we did during the 6 nights we were at our last site. A first for me was a Robin hanging onto both a fat ball and a half coconut. Not quite as agile as Blue and Great Tits but was certainly enjoying the feed.

Been seeing more flocks of birds migrating, apparently they are going to mate earlier as the weather is getting warmer.you can't blame them!

At last....Waxwings, at least 60!  Near Clitheroe, exactly the same tree as last winter. Might nip back tomorrow to make a good start to the 2017 year list 😊

First off I only know it works with my setup, that's Windows, Firefox and mouse on my desktop. Others may have different, but I can't comment on that.

The steps look a lot but in practice its only a few seconds to do. It's a workaround that people should not have to do as other sites allow proper uploading, but we have to live with what's offered.

    • I resize a photo to 500 pixels in width
    • I have a free throwaway 'Weebly' website where I store all photos where a forum needs an Internet host, like this one.
    • I upload my resized photo to my 'Weebly' website and publish it, it is now published, hosted and available to the world.
    • I now have two tabs open, the CT forum and my website with the photo.
    • I press reply in CT and add my text
    • I then click on my photo in the Weebly tab, keep the left mouse button down and drag the photo to the CT tab.
    • The CT forum tab opens and I carry on and drag the photo into the CT reply box, where it appears with my text.
    • I then press reply.

Thanks for the reply Dave. This seems to be similar to how Oneput advised Photobucket would work only using copy/paste rather than drag and drop.

However Photobucket has been changed it seems and no longer works how it used to.

I guess I will stick to the new upload method.

I was up on Exmoor today, in beautiful wintery sunshine with empty moors all around. I noticed quite a few of the sheep had their horns painted in orange fluorescent paint, an anti car device no-doubt in these dark winter days when quite a few animals get run over.

I also spotted some Exmoor ponies with their lovely thick winter coats so I stopped to take a quick photo of one handsome little pony eating some of the sparse moorland food.

The journey was from Dulverton, over the tops, down to Simonsbath, down through Watersmeet where the old lodge is being repaired just now. Then up Countisbury Hill and on towards Porlock, taking in the view of Porlock and Selworthy Beacon.

Looks like the same one Dave! No-one around at this time of the year and I was hoping to spot some deer that apparently venture towards Culbone

Today, I took a photo of our daily garden visitor., whose diet of apples I should probably follow!

    Fieldfare photo coming up.

Walked around our lovely little Country Park and reservoir this morning, heard a "plop" and yes, a lovely little water vole! Haven't seen one in ages, so very pleased.

I saw the two buzzards again today they must have taken up residence in our local area.laughing

They started to get mobbed by four crows which looks odd them being much larger.

I have seen this before but usually when they stray near to crows nests in season. I suppose the crows see them as rivals to their food source which is road kill on the country lanes.

Reading your post bought back some lovely memories, we also took that route across Exmoor when staying at the Dulverton site, I think we also parked to take photos in that spot!!
