There was a Black Shoulder Kite in England this summer RK. It stayed for quite some time. I didn't get to see it as it was somewhere down South I think. Your sightings and this one so far North may indicate a move northwards by the breed probably climate driven and following their food source. I've only ever seen the 1 that being in North East Spain one year.

We always saw lots of Cattle Egrets around the Caussade area when we stopped for a few days heading South. Now see them on the Dee estuary on the Wirral, even overwintering. How times change.

Had a good walk on Saturday in the local area.

Plenty of Redwings, a few Fieldfares, 2 Buzzards and a wonderful view of a male Sparrowhawk flying low beside a hedge looking for his next meal.

Great to see @peedee. We saw a magnificent one a few years ago, before Covid, at the Ham Wall reserve in Somerset. It's a memorable occasion. The noise they make and then when they drop into the Reedbed the silence is just as amazing. We did see a Sparrowhawk following them in in order to pick off any stragglers, which they always do.

    Thanks for sharing.

Had a stroll next to the marshes on the river Dee on the Wirral this morning. Plenty of bird activity with both Marsh and Hen Harriers putting up hundreds of Lapwing and Pink Footed Geese. Plenty of winter ducks and a flying Bittern on show for about 3 seconds before dropping into vegetation.

Walking on the Flintshire side of the Dee today we saw huge flocks of Teal, 2 Black Tailed Godwits feeding in a channel, a flock of Redwing and a smashing close view of an over wintering Green Sandpiper in the channel, very close to us.

Today we saw a roadside bank which had lots of daffodils in flower, and over the last week we have also seen snowdrops and camellia in flower. It just goes to show how mild it has been so far this winter.

Driving along the A55 yesterday we noticed a Cattle Egret following some cows in a field. Thought we must have been mistaken but it was still there when we returned a few hours later.

West Kirby Marina threw up a couple of interesting viewings yesterday. There was a beautiful Male Scaup quite close to the path showing really well in the sunshine and there was 17 Brent Geese gently bobbing along on the waves.

Plenty of Knot out on the sands whirling around trying to avoid an unidentified raptor.

Over the last few days when there is a dry spell Red Kites are moving north of us to where not sure and today sun all day so had 5 Red Kites flying around before they went north and in the last week we have had about 100 Jackdaws flying around early morning behind us and landing in two large oak trees and this evening they were on the move again to a wood west of us about 200 metres away and I thought I would go outside to see them before it got dark and saw the local crows gathering about 40 of them usually see 6 so was surprised that they were flying around in through the Jackdaws as if to say this is our place go away and boy did they chase them even attacked a couple of jackdaws the crows really did not want them around the woods at all and it started to get a bit darker and they were all still flying around will see what happens tomorrow morning, we have not had Jackdaws around here before.

Our resident male Blackbird has taken to attacking himself in the reflection of the windows again. Did it last year as well. Just hope he doesn't do himself an injury.

Came back from a bit of shopping today and had 2 Red Legged Partridges run across the road but they did fly off once other side of road.

I spotted a Grey Wagtail this afternoon, for me a rare site around the streets on our estate, but not a rare bird per se.

It's just gone 1 o'clock in the morning and I'm sitting in a hospital car park listening to a variy of bird song, such as a lovely Blackbird, a manic Wren, a persistent Dunnock and a rather weak sounding Robin.

I'm delighted to tell you all I've just seen my first Brimstone of this year ๐Ÿ˜€

We have another bright day, this is day 5 ๐Ÿซฃ. How I and nature are loving it, daffodils that weren't showing buds at the weekend, are now showing colour. The birds are singing and pairing, well the latter in my garden ๐Ÿ˜€

    Isn't it a beautiful world?

OH cutting our 2nd area of grass, 1st done yesterday but it got too cool for him. He went to start the 2nd area, the orchard (2 fruit trees ๐Ÿ˜‰) yesterday afternoon but neighbours came over to chat to him, and i wandered out too - lovely, but meant it didn't get done. But we did have good catch up. 1st since tge new year, we've waved through the rain ๐Ÿคฃ Hopefully he'll start on the back this afternoon. Forecast for tomorrow has some of that wet stuff again! Since it turned milder and bright you can almost see the grass grow!

There is a pond in one of the fields close to the site's walk where today there were flocks of 30 Canada Geese, 60 or more Wigeon and one of over 50 Curlew, also a large skien of Pink Footed Geese flew over as i was walking round, so it was quite a noisy place,

OK, so we're a bit weird but these are Ladybird Pupae found on the lichen of headstones on graves of a church we visited today. We think they're Harlequin Ladybirds. Quite a few but these were the best specimens.

Durng our walks today around Ashton's Flashes at Northwich we saw Lapwings and Curlew on the ponds, and about 20 Teal feeding at the stream outfall at Witton Mill Bridge but the highlight was seeing out first Brimstone butterfly of the year. Back at the Site there was a Peacock Butterfly sunbathing on a shed wall.

There have been a lot of drumming around here too @RedKite We saw another couple of Brimstones and a Peacock Butterfly in the Quinta Arboretum this afternoon. The spot of the day, through the car window was a field mouse feeding on the new shoots on the branch of a flowering current. Tried for a photo but not a success.
