Had an unusual but semi regular sighting at home of a Grey Wagtail. No running water nearby and about a mile from nearest river. Quite brightened the day.

    Hi Micky

Its a long way from Humberside, but if you are in the Slimbridge area around fledging time, you may get a treat of chick wandering around. The attached pick was taken mid May last year.

There are a number of cranes year round ( about 7 ) and they breed most years.

Absolutely stunning photo BM, I saw them in Norfolk a few years ago but my photos were rather blurred and at great distance. Also hoping to see the Storks around and about on our tours  this spring. Hoping for a good breeding season for both species. The return of these iconic birds is primarily down to habitat restoration, restorative farming and determined enlightened farmers, naturalists and lovers of the great outdoors. 👍

Saw the first sand martins of the season today.  The cliffs haven’t suffered too much this winter so hoping for a good breeding season.

A good place to see cranes in Norfolk is the raptor viewing point at Stubbs Mill, NWT Hickling Broad especially when they are coming into roost

    Hi OP

Hoping to dust off the van this year and return to Norfolk again and will keep this suggestion in mind.

    Hope you are both well.

Saw 3 cranes flying just to the south of us earlier today, I believe they ended up at SWT Carlton Marshes.  This afternoon about 700 Cormorants flew in from the sea over our house, what was unusual was they were in one skien instead of the normal dozen or so

Just watching 500+ Starlings murmuration over the house.  They are probably getting ready to migrate

Have had 8 Black Kites flying over on their way further north, a pair of Bramblings at the bird feeder a bit late thought they would have been on their way north, also had a tree sparrow on the fat balls not seen one of them for awhile, Red kites have been flying over every day this week from their southern winter grounds, had a pair of female Black Redstarts fighting over the only male Black Redstart very interesting.

Did seen 3 Osprey's flying over yesterday on our way to a local DIY store and they were flying very low good to see, also a lot of Cattle Egrets in a couple of fields as well.

We have seen Storks often around here.  They come from Thrigby Hall where they are free to come and go at will.
There is a Dutch ringed bird currently on the Kessingland Flats, if it’s still there on Monday I will go over and see it

Spotted a hedgesparrow's nest today, four eggs. Lots of bees out. Our neighbour has been on a bee keeping course and set up a hive but there's not much in his garden so I expect his bees will be travelling far and wide. 🐝

Just had a tip off that there are alpine swifts and cranes not far from us so off out on the hunt! Keep your eyes peeled everyone, apparently they both are tipping up in numbers all over the UK. May (alpine swifts) even breed here for the first time this year, who knows?

There were a number seen just off the west coast of the Wirral yesterday Micky, not particularly known for its mountains!laughing

Anyone at Wirral CP at the moment should keep a look out. Fortunately easily identified by their white belly, (the bird not the CAMC member).

Yes, saw Alpine Swift which are chunkier and bigger than I’d expected with a whitish under patch. a first for us. Didn’t see the cranes mind but have seen those in Norfolk and Suffolk in the past. I’m now told there are white storks not far away but I’m home now delighted with my new ✔️. They, the storks, will have to wait till another day!👍

Just heard this morning that quite a few Alpine Swifts have been spotted at coastal locations stretching right up the East coast from Flamborough to Hartlepool. The amazing thing was that the one I saw yesterday was just 200 metres from my home. Seems like they are ‘invading’ the UK from all fronts. What’s going on in the World?

Looking at Fulmars today on the NE coast  some of their rocky perches are falling into the sea due to erosion, local Peregrine still around so watched him skimming the cliffs too. Noticed the coastal sloe is still tightly budded, further south the white blossom is brightening the hedgerows. I took a heel from the NE sloe and will try and grow it back home just as a reminder of the cliffs. smile

I haven't been up the Wirral for a week or so but looking at the photos on the website set up for birders has given me plenty of joy.

Hope you enjoy the photos as well. Just keep scrolling down to come across them.

There were sightings of two Ospreys around the Wirrell estuary yesterday, one which appeared to be heading towards Burton, so may well be worth a visit.

     "27/03 10:44 Cheshire : Osprey, Hoylake
one distantly over sea off Dovepoint

27/03 12:55 Clwyd : Osprey, Connah's Quay NR (Permit Only)
    one flew towards Burton (10:30)"

Not heard or see any Chiffchaffs here yet but the frogs have arrived next field and very noisy in the evenings not sure where there is any water there bt we do get Toads in the village Lavoir and LPO got funding to build a underground crossing on the village road so the toads can get to the Lavoir and other water places safely.

Did see 8 Black Kites flyiing around a village we went through the other day and on the way about 40 Cattle Egrets in a field next to the road they have seemed to settle in this area in the last two years.

The toads around our pond are quite noisy at the moment, we like seeing them, often find them buried into things around the garden and slowly moving around. smile

A Coal tit(singular) I have only once seen one in my garden, forests, copse & woods yes, many but it was great watching it doing zoomies onto the sunflower hearts snatch & fly back to the Stellata tree, It looked as if it was in full Ninja suit. Black cap & breast with white triangular patches under the eyes👍🏻. 4 collared Doves this year too, only a solitary 1 last year. It certainly proves the need for feed in gardens.

    *Stock photo not mine.
