What have you seen

That's what lockdown does to you. 😌Makes it easy to digress.

Sorry to have digressed Wherenext. The thread title is "What Have You Seen" and I started my post saying that I had seen a kingfisher for over 5 minutes. Yes, I did go on to query my photographic equipment but I bet over 90% of the threads on this forum start with one topic and end up talking about something totally unconnected. It is how conversations evolve.

We'll look forward to your efforts with the camera.
By some miracle this thread has stayed on track over the years it's been running and we've seen lots of interesting posts and photos.
I'm pleased that wildlife and nature has provided a relief during Covid although I think people are venturing out less just now...reminder to self, get out and start looking! 🦉

Had a walk around the house this morning and surprised to see a lizard on the south facing wall and only 7C.
The bees have been looking around for flowers as the cosmos took a hit with last nights frost but there a few winter flowering shrubs out and they are busy on them.

We get to see Red Kites regularly, they are often mobbed by the Crow's the other morning though watched as the Kite was chased by one of our local ring necked Parakeets. It was quite an amusing sight to see.

It the is the same here the parakeets are quite bold with both Kites and Buzzards but they seem to quite subservient to Jackdaws and Crows
There were three kites over our houses earlier this week when the warmth was creating thermals for them

My post wasn't meant to be taken as antogonistic and I should have worded it better but not everyone is a photographer of wildlife, some specialising in countryside or people or architecture etc. and you would probably get a bigger response by putting it in the Hobby section as I know other posters have done when asking similar questions about photographic equipment. Hope you get what you need.

Have spotted a Grey Squirrel around our estate for the 3rd time in the last week. There are no woods close by but I guess that with more people at home extra food is being put out for the birds and they are taking the chance of any easy feed.

Hi John
You are welcome
There is a cash back offer on Canon gear for Black Friday, which puts the 90D under £1k. If you are open to a move away from Canon, check out the Sony mirror less. They are getting rave reviews amongst bird photographers at the moment. Several friends of mine have changed from both Nikon and Canon. Rather expensive though.

Fingers crossed.
It should be visible until the 8th. I've yet to see it, as it's either cloudy when I remember, I do have a sound reminder on my phone, or I cant be free and outside at the time 🙁. Its only a very short opportunity 😂. Mind you on one of my previous attempts I did discover we have a minimum of 5 hedgehogs that visit our garden 😀

Saw a large group of finch/bunting sized birds flying up, down and across Wheeldale valley. Strange thing was they were murmurating and distinctly yellow breasted on turning. Have heard of yellowhammers doing this but I've never seen it before. Any thoughts?

Yellowhammers do flock together Micky. We had a lovely group who visited us, but we lost them when a local orchard was scratched out..more orchards have come along now so I hope the birds have found a new area.
We had two great spotted woodpeckers in the garden today, not a very good photo of the nearest one, loads of birds around today.

You are lucky, brue, all we seem to get at the moment are Starlings and Wood Pigeons, and occasional glance of a Robin. They don't seem to like all the food that we put out for them.

Caught it Brue, thanks for the heads up, it moved from West to East heading to the Moon(my perspective not it’s actual destination😊)

Love the mistletoe pictures.
A different topic altogether, today we saw several pairs of choughs on the Great Orme, against a fabulously blue sky. Or one pair several times.
