Where to go in France this summer...?

Hi all,

I'd really appreciate suggestions on where to head for 2 weeks in the Summer Holidays in France this year please? Unfortunately we can't avoid the 6 week hols.

I'll consider absolutely anywhere in France except maybe the South coast, (excluded purely based on time). Its our first jaunt with the van abroad, but I have no worries about navigating, distance, or anything like that.

We are 2 adults (aged 37) with a 10yr old in tow. We like sites with a bar, take-away, good swimming facilities, and some form of entertainment. Don't mind how big or how small the site in general, as long as they've got those. Cleanliness of toilet/shower
block is a must as we don't use our shower in the van, and the other half appreciates the Club's standards in the UK!

Ideally I'd like to have some nice places to visit such as pretty villages, as we enjoy a drive out and about, a few eat and drink options within walking distance (taking advantage of France's delicious food and vino), and we'll probably take the bikes as
well.

Can be inland or on the coast.

Would consider ferries Hull - Zeebrugge, Portsmouth/Poole - Caen (or St.Malo), or Dover - Calais/Eurotunnel. We're travelling from Sheffield, so a Hull one sounds a nice idea, but looks like it would commit us to an East coast hol.

I've been to the South before and not got sunshine, so although sun is a preference in general, I'm happy to take my chances on that one!

I need to narrow down the number of choices in the continental caravanning guide somehow, and that's before I've looked elsewhere! So all recommendations are gratefully received :)

Thanks in advance,

Matt
