What Bedding?

We dont have a fixed bed, personally they just arent for me. We have traditionally always had sleeping bags in the van ( pull the slates out and make the bed up) But I hate the cold zip.

Does anyone else use the same bed arrangement? Ifrom so what do you do?

Many thanks for helping.

Higher rated sleeping bags have baffles to prevent the cold zip from touching you. In fact some have both baffles and plastic zips.

    Wider sleeping bags?

We use sleeping bags. OH has a wider one than me. We don't zip them higher than shin level. Works for us.

I would not want a heavier grade bag as it woukd be too warm at night.

We use duvets. Ours have buttons at the bottom! Storage can be a problem and ours did not like being squashed. Some people are impressed with the Duvalay systems so I would suggest you have a look at those.

I use a duvet with a light mattress topper and roll it up under the window under a throw - it makes a good back rest during the day for feet up time.  Decided sleeping bags were no good years ago when under canvas - I don't know if they make them longerr
now but at almost 6' they didn't work for me.

Exactly what we have at home - proper cotton sheets, goosedown duvet, and cotton duvet cover and pillowcases.

I'm afraid we've never gone in for sleeping bags.  I can't understand the rationale of having a 'state of the art' caravan and then 'camping' in it.  I wouldn't sleep in a sleeping bag (too restrictive), so even in our 'tenting' days we had real bedding.

Not restrictive at all as a single Valda as I never Zip the side up. When we made up a double at the rear of previous van we did as you do.

We used to have sleeping bags (2 zipped together to make a double) but they are not practical for long trips when bedding needs to be washed, so 10 years back we switched to duvets.

For the made up front double we used a single duvet in a cover over the upholstery, rather than a sheet.  Surprisingly we found that it did not wrinkle up or move much.

Then we have a king size double for over us, and 2 pillows each, like at home.

Now we have a fixed bed we use a stretchy sheet over the matress as it is easy to put on.

We have something very similar to pippah45. We have a 1" memory foam topper that I made 2 sets of full covers for out of cotton sheets, a bit like a duvet cover or a giant pillowcase. This gets rolled up and sits under the window instead of the cushion,
its left at home. We then have pillows and duvet, cotton in summer and brushed cotten for winter, nice and cozy. We use the van all year round,  so in winter I use a 10.5 tog duvet and in summer I have a lighter one.

I agree with ValDa why use sleeping bags, never have never will, we go away for up to 12 weeks so no, no way, nice fresh bedding just the same as at home, I carry a spare set just incase I have problems getting them dry.

Yes, we have similar, we got a "3-way" duvet from Ikea......one bit is lightweight, the second is thicker, and the 2 can be fixed together to make a really thick one.  Mainly we only need the lightweight one so the thicker one stays at home and is used on
    the spare bed.

We also have 2 sets of covers, again from Ikea, and the stretchy sheets are from Lidl.

Those three way duvets are great - mine came from Dunelm and I have just changed to the autumn one.  Lidl stretch sheets are good too.

same here, Val. perhaps if a weekender ten times a year....but we spend half our lives (or more) in these beds so they work best with the same feel as 'at home'....proper bed, proper sheets, duck down duvets, pillowcases.....lovelyHappy

We use an old sleeping bag, opened out, as a base on top of the cushions, then instead of sheets a double duvet cover as an inner sleeping bag, and then a king size duvet on top, tog value depending on the time of the year. The "innerbag" duvet cover we
wash on a weekly basis, and carry a spare in case the washed one hasn't dried during the day.

We do the same as Nellie. We had problems with sleeping bags so used one of the sleeping bags under the sheet and found it far better.

We use a lightweight all year as we simply set the heating to suit

We have matching bedding - sheets, duvets, pillow cases etc. on bunks and double. In lovely warm neutral colours to match the caravan decor. Looks lovely and cosy when all made up.

A proper sheet and a wool filled duvet as it seems to have wider temperature range than our Goose down home duvet.

I used to make up a bed every night and then got really fed up with having to make up a bed every night so I have a fixed bed now.  So much better!  I've gone down the wool route too, only I've gone the whole hog. I have a wool matress topper, wool filled
pillows and a 3 way, light, medium and combine the two for real cold, wool duvet too. As Deleted UserUser said I find that the wool seems to have a much wider comfort range than other fillings and I think wool pillows are fantastic. They are not cheap but having
tried them I wouldn't use anything else now.  I used to wake up with a blocked nose, dry mouth and often woke up in the night soaking wet from night sweats.  All gone since I started using wool bedding with cotton sheets and pillow cases. I can't recommend
them too highly.  I always take three sets of bed linnen away with me.  It takes up very little space and means that I do not have to do any laundry or ironing whilst I'm away. I hate doing both but trying to do either in a caravan is a total nightmare for
    me.

We have 2 single duvets, one thicker for me and thinner for my husband ( he's always hot)  this gives us the choice of making up the front bed or sleeping on the sofas. I made a kingsize patchwork quilt to go underneath. Never been cold so far.

We've got a lovely lightweight wool duvet at home, made locally in the southwest, from Devon Duvets. A bit pricey to buy more for the van so we manage with cosy soft cotton sleeping bags.
