Sat navigation or other?

We are preparing to start our first European two month holiday with our motorhome touring France and Spain. I have purchased the latest edition of Campers Stop  Europe which gives GPS coordinates for airer locations.

Is it better to just buy a good sat navigation (in which case, which one) or is it better just to use a mobile phone with Google maps or navigator to make location finding easier.

I have heard it is illegal to have a sat navigation in France that gives the locations of speed cameras, etc.

Any advice from all you hardened motorhomers out there!
