I am beginning to think why am i member We just went to book morton in marsh site (cotswolds) £215 for 7 nights begining of august
Not paying that so booked riverside in stratford on avon right on the river with a water taxi from the site into the centre of stratford for the same 7 nights £162
Ooohh I thought when I read this as I stay at Moreton in Marsh quite often, so i looked at Stratford Caravans website (I'm guessing this is the one you are refering to?).
http://www.stratfordcaravans.co.uk/touring/2016%20%20-%20%20prices
and it looked nice at first, until I realised it was all grass. Now that will suit some people but not me, looking out my window now at my wet garden, I wouldnt want a grass pitch even in July or August. My preference I realise. TBH for that reason I wouldnt
stay there if it was free. Then there is the Deposit, the charge for awnings, the charge for dogs, a limit of two dogs, the various booking conditions etc etc.
If this suits you great, but it wont suit a lot of people
Fair comment we dont mind grass in the summer yes the awnings extra but we dont bother with awning and the dog price i included in the price quoted .But for a pitch right on the river big price difference

I think that some people use the CC sites because dogs are free. Some commercial sites don't allow dogs at all and other sites limit the number or charge for dogs. If you add in this nightly charge for dogs then CC sites can work out cheaper.

"Then there is the Deposit, the charge for awnings, the charge for dogs, a limit of two dogs, the various booking conditions etc etc."
i dont get the 'issue' about paying a deposit....youll just pay less when you arrive, wont you?
awnings, dogs, not interested....booking conditions?....generally there to stop folk cancelling at short notice, quite sensible for a business to do
i guess with no awning, dogs, kids, spare cars etc we might have a price advantage over some at commercials, hence their attraction for those who dont want to 'take advantage'
having seen the patches of dead grass on some of the pitches here at Lytton Lawns, im not surprised their is (in effect) a 'maintenance charge' for those that kill the grass.

..Yes, as you say, I think we all understand very well. But can't comment or cast such aspersions that some don't, in my experience they, the wardens, all apply it to the letter just like recently officially clarified. Good to see you can laugh about
it mind!0 -

..Thats where the "hidden" extras on other sites soon make them on a par with both clubs sites
No hidden extras on that website link, it clearly states what's what.
The pitch fee includes 2 people. The CC pitch fee is just the pitch, then the extras of people be they adult or child on the website, or in the handbook. On the CC App there is 'from £xx', depending on type of pitch, when you click that oprton you then get
'hidden' extras that have to be added. Hardly transparent given the App is pushed as quick and easy.Whilst I understand for every alternative to CC sites posted on CT there will be die hard CC members who will always defend any percieved criticism to their deathbed; the newer members who exercise choice appear to offer alternatives for the benefit of all.
As a family without a dog who are tied to school holidays and weekends, from our first year in the CC with equal number of nights in CC and commercial sites under our belt, the CC fees are higher in all comparisons. I've posted several times the analysis
carried out of actual holidays. As price is our driver, we take the time to understand what is what. As it happens, our longer holidays have so far combined CC and commercial sites due to locations and times available to us. We will continue to use both offerings
fully expecting the CC sites to be the higher fees. We may be pleasantly surprised one day0 -
I have been surprised at horw full Bromyard Downs, Cherry Hinton and present site at Norfolk Broads have been.
Write your comments here...As one who wants less on a site I am presently on Seacroft outside Cromer. Site also full. Restraunt, swimming pool, bar, entertainment .... none of which I shall use

Our last trip of 75 nights cost us a total of £882:80 in site fees, including staying at 2 CC sites. This works out at about £11:77 pn. Caravanning using club sites need not be excessively expensive as long as one carefully selects where one stops.

We tend not to use the enhanced facility sites (EFS) including the commercials 'cos we don't need those EFs. We look carefully at the planned itinerary then look at the non EFS, they tend to be just a tad cheaper, and, in my experience/opinion, in the better
and quieter places. Of course I do recognise that other folk will really enjoy the EFS and the different holiday experience they can offer. Each to their own I guess.0 -
We don't need the Enhanced Facilities either......and on the two commercial sites that we stayed on earlier this year, they didn't actually force us to use them!
And we went to the areas that we wanted and we saved a lot of money over using CC sites.

What it all boils down to is that if you want cheap look elsewhere but if club sites suit you and you are willing to pay a small premium then use them. Value for money is a completely different thing from cost but is not an exact science. Basically it is
what you feel is right for you so there is no right or wrong price it is your perception of it.0 -

13 out of 15 sites were CLs, or put another way 67 nights compared to 8 which works out at about 86% of nights spent on CLs.

Agree with corner steady, you get what you pay for! The CC is brilliant value. We got conned by a Devon farmer, out of 'high season for £28 a night, 6amp electric, that tripped out just using a fridge and two showers for a 5 field site!!, which you had two
pay for extra0 -
i would have thought that 2 showers for 5 vans was an exceptionally favourable ratio.
for a 100 van site youd need 40 showers to acheive the same..
i certainly would look for, nor expect, showers and toilets on a 5 van site, though some do have them.....

when we stay on a CL, usually on route for major holidays, if it doesn't have a shower & toilets listed we don't go. A lot do if you check

Well, you can't 'go' if there isn't a toilet, can you?
Do you wait till the next day?
sorry Ian, I forgot that I'm sometimes wrirting for those who have trouble with interepting the written word, I admit it was ambiguous (to help you out that means
open to more than one interpretation; not having one obvious meaning) but most would have got the meaning from the rest of the post.I of course meant go to a CL that does not have facilities
