Just been on a club site. New 15 plate motorhome parked up,

1st day it goes out and leaves the mains plug on the ground and pluged in. We disconnected it for safety.

2nd Day motorhomer goes out, its raining, again leaves the plug on the ground connected. We disconnected it and left a waterproof note telling him of the dangers and refering to the clubs reccomendations !!!

3rd day Motorhomer goes out and this time has decided putiing the still connected plug under a hedge will surfice. We give up.

Yes we know there are MCB/RCCD units at the post but they can become faulty and even so there not there to protect stupid motorhome owners from such daft acts. Will they never learn or are they Gods Gift !!!!!

The real big concern is that the Wardens must have passed the pitch at least 5 times each day but clearly did not want to get involved or even do a responsible job of advising the motorhome owner. Mind the pitch had 3 young kids under 5 (just the sort who stick fingers into everthing) so they clearly did not care about safety. No doubt if something had happened it would have been everyones fault other than theirs.

Write your comments here...So, in answer, Yes, we do learn,we are learning something every day, for instance, we have learned that by pressing the button on the EHU bollard, the breaker is tripped, the blue plug rotates and is no longer connected to power, this means that we do not have to wind up, then unwind our power cable every time we go offsite, which is handy, the cable is not live, so not dangerous, and it backs up our Motorcaravan using this Site  sign, that this pitch/EHU really are taken,  IF the bollard mcb,s are NOT of the push button type, and a lot of the newer ones are not, then we uplug the bollard end of our cable, and drape it over the bollard. Job done.       Ps. We learned all of this after 25 years of Caravanning and 10 years of Motorhoming.and we are still learning. Pps if you had left me a waterproof note, i would have explained, as above, and returned the note to you. And carried on as explained above.

A very valid post by W&J.......trouble is, they included a ctriticism of the site staff doing their usual "nothing to do with me" thing.......never going to be popular on here.

Keep up the good work, W&J.  Laughing

Don't let them wind you up rayjsj, if people like the OP have nothing better to do with their time on site than spy on other people, then they are to be pitied and best ignoredYell(that
    winds them up even more).....Cool

Maybe this was the type of EHU where pushing the button causes the plug to rotate and disconnects the supply. I've left ours plugged in many a time but have pushed the button so the  lead is not live.

Have W&J considered this or simply chosen to complain on a forum by suggesting MH-ers are all the same?

I suspect you are spot on with your explanation TW. This action has the added advantage of ensuring that a new arrival does not plug into your chosen socket, as I have found that not all sites number the socket
    to match the pitch.

The practice is dangerous and one day will lead to a serious accident or even a fatality one day. It only needs a young child to pick it up and poke a finger down the end and the result is inevitable. Wardens who see this should remove the dable and
leave a note that it is in the office and give the owner a dressing down when he returns.

This has got to be a wind up surely. Given all their previous complaints the most surprising thing is to find the words "Wayne & Judy" in close proximity to  "just been on a club site"! Wink

I belive the op was actually trying to do the m/h occupants a favour, by saving them from themselves.

There is more "winding up" going on in this thread than of actual cables on site by the sound of it! Happy

I'd never dream of leaving a cable on the pitch - it might not be there when we get back!

We've never had a theft (touch wood) but why tempt fate?  It would be rubbish to return to a site after a long day out, only to have to go on the hunt for a cable to beg, borrow or...

I think you are right there TtDA......for a minute there, I thought that all the criticism of the op, for trying to help a fellow camper,  was actually serious! Of course it couldn't be......

I would love to have read W&Js post if the cable also had tape and wires sticking out as well as being plugged in.Laughing

Write your comments here...the plugs at Seacroft do not have rotation on them hence always live. Seems some people have no concerns over the safty of members on site.

Is it restricted to Motorhomers (2015 plate) then, or does it include those with caravans and trailer tents, and in fact those who camp but use a hook up as well?

You have to admit W&J that, in view of your posting history, your reputation does you no favours. However, assuming this event is as you represent it, why did you not explain to your neighbours face to face the error off their ways fof the said of the children and others? It would have been so simple.

Obviously the OP does not have much of a life as to worry what everyone else is doing. Surely time would be better spent counting the number of dogs on site or who is arriving before or after 12 or better still get on with their holiday!

Does the end of the cable that plugs into the van not have a spring loaded cover......ours certainly does. If you pull out the plug the cover snaps over covering the connections. Can't really see that leaving the cable is any more dangerous than an extension
lead at home or indeed any outdoor wiring!
