Lyon- Bypass or not?

I have always urged people to use the by-pass around Lyon and that's what we did on the way down to Provence, however, it is about 25 miles further and there are currently roadworks. As we are travelling North on a Saturday I am wondering whether to break
my own advice and go straight through.
Is the route the same as it used to be, along by the Rhône and under the tunnels? Is it signposted OK; we ended up going through the middle of Lyon once!
