A radio programme today highlighted the possible costs of using a credit card in phone boxes in Europe.  A company called BBPG runs the credit card side of the operation, and charges are very different to if you use coins.  A couple ran up a bill of £38.00
for a 5 minute call from a post office phone box in Austria.  Soldiers in a town in Germany were being charged 42 dollars to receive a 5 second voicemail!

If you have a choice use coins, or buy a prepaid card locally which gives you the equivalent coin value when used in phone boxes.

It will cost many times more to use a credit card in a phone box than the coin equivalent, or even of using the most expensive mobile phone charge rate.
