Calais, a place to stay or just pass through?

So, our trip to France draws closer, off to Jablines near Paris but on the way home we fancy going to the beach for a few days and are planning to stop at La Bien Assisse.

Is Calais a good place to visit or would you recommend somewhere else that is not too far from the Ferry at Calais?
