New Dartford crossing rules.
Are members aware that there are new rules for payment for crossing the Thames en route to Dover and return .The booths are closing and now you need to open an account and pay in advance or pay with in 24 hours of your travel either by mobile phone, or by online . Your number is recognised and you will be fined if you do not pay within the time frame.
I have just queried this as my son is coming from Germany to us for Xmas and was told he needs to pay in advance or open an account or pay by midnight the day after his journey by phone call or booking on line and paying. It is still £2.50 a trip and the one off payment for £5 is valid for 12 months.I questioned what happens if travellers come in to the UK not knowing and have no currency? I was told they are warned by notices on approach to the tunnel and bridge and they will be pursued by the authoritoes in their own country on return for payment. The information on line at h_info@highways.gsi.gov.uk , payments can be made to Dartcharge on 0300 300 0120 or www.gov.uk/dart-charge.This is going to make it difficult if you cannot access the internet having crossed while going on holiday...But rest assured they will get you and fine you if you don't comply. Hope this is useful, I suggest travellers check this out prior to travelling....
