DFDS Ferry gas bottle size/number limits.
Over the past month or two the subject of limits to the number and size of gas bottles which are allowed on cross channel ferries or the tunnel has been the subject of discussion, indeed there are currently live discussions which include this subject on
both the Practical Motorhome and the Motorcaravan, Motorhome Monthly Forum. For motorhomers the CC arrangement with DFDS Dover/Dunkerque and now Dover/Calais is great value. However, getting a definitive answer from DFDS on gas bottle sizes and numbers is
not easy.
Their terms and conditions web-pages are very confusing. One says you can have up to 47kg of Butane/Propane, whilst a summary version says 2 x 11kg. I believe I have previously seen somewhere on their website that motorhomes could carry 2x13kg butane/propane
bottles on the Dover/Dunkerque route. Earlier today, when I could not find the reference again I phoned their 0871 number and was told by the "helpline operator", from her script the limit is 2x11kg. When I questioned this she went to her manager who confirmed
there wasn't a limit for motorhomes on the Dover/Dunkerque route. That is we are allowed two 13kg bottles on the Dover to Dunkerque or Calais crossings as I had previously read on their site.
Please can the Caravan Club get a definitive answer from DFDS in writing and publish same. Similar written clarification for other routes would also be great.
