How long to arriver for Dover ferry?

I have not caught a ferry from Dover for many years, preferring to do the train these days, but on Monday 15th April I have a 1215 booking with DFDS. I heard on the news a few days ago of large ques on the approach roads to Dover for the ferry but thought that was probably just the Easter holidays. DFDS say arrive by 45 minutes before travel but what do you recommend. We are only at Black Horse site so can arrive quite early if necessary. Any advice welcomed.

Also is it generally first on first off with a motorhome making an early arrival beneficial?
