I hardly dare mention this, but we are having a long weekend at York Rowntree. Still, 4 nights for only £31.50
(I'm using the Moulesy school of finance (and some site vouchers) method here

And very sensible too Ian! Bet you couldn't get that sort of deal at Sandy Balls in August! ( Can't believe you're at yet another CC site though - what do you see in them?!!!
)Site vouchers is what I see in them........so there goes another reason to use them......that was the last of the vouchers.

Cooler and very pleasant today, good walking weather. For those who know the area near Trellisick, we stopped just short of the estate and walked along a wide bridleway to Cowlands, then on to Coombe and across to the lovely isolated church at Old Kea and back via Lanner with spectacular views over the estuary. Had lunch at the Punchbowl & Ladle at Penelewey ( we've driven past it countless times in the past.) Good discovery too - excellent food, nice couple of pints of Tribute and free dog treats too! Highly recommended if you're ever in the area.

DSB, many thanks for getting back to us re Chalons. What a shame that the place isn't doing any better this year, you would think that when someone buys a campsite it would get better not worse
It seems to have plenty of people staying, but I still think it is living on it's past reputation. How long this will last I don't know. At least they have a decent boulangerie at the top of the road.

Another dreek day here, morning wasn't to bad but by lunchtime it was definitely dreek.
Went into town with big sis intending to do some serious damage to the plastic (to cheer us up) but alas only managed a pair of jeans

try harder next time
Heating now back on again for an hour or so, the house feels so chilly, I agree Kj its more like October than August, kids go back to school next week so the weather should get better then
Well TG, having looked up what 'dreek' meant
i can tell you it hasnt been that here...so hot for brekkie in the garden, it
was on with the factor 30.....forecast not quite as good for tomorrow, back to 23/25 by Monday....lovely...
....as for having the heating on....phew..

to be honest it wasn't really chilly outside today it was quite warm, this house never suffers with it being too warm, the
insulation is so good you have to open the doors and windows to let the warm air in, bit difficult when its bucketing it down bonus is in
winter the house is toasty with only minimal heating on.0 -

Thanks for the update which appears to be superficial rather than a complete rebuild. Like you we also use our own facilities so the state of the toilets/showers is not really an issue for us but perhaps does say something about the attitude of the owners? Its still a useful overnighter especially when wet although its not the easist site to get to.

Upon returning home from our tour at the beginning of the week, we discovered that we had no hot water. We had our boiler fixed yesterday, so for the first time since returning home we can have a "proper" shower after the slightly cramped 'wet,lather,rinse'

It's not very summery here, but I suppose it is seasonal. Downward slide into autumn now!
So, no barbecue or other outside food tonight. Just a Cold Collation for eleven inside. Mains and puddings done. Now to start on salads.
And, apart from milking/feeding/mucking out/checking stock - a day off for the farmers here. If you can count working from 5 - 10.30, and then 3.30 to 6.30 a day off!
Very soon the house will be full of grandsons (and dog). I had better enjoy the quite while it lasts. But I do have my choice of music blasting out.

Well, we do have some sun now, and it has finally stopped raining, but the woodwork and metalwork is still too damp for painting.
Off to potter in my garage till after lunch.
Also need to look at our jockey wheel again, the new clamp I purchased cannot be used, so further investigation is needed. What I need apparently is a new "striker plate", but cannot find one anywhere.
It's one of those centre jockey wheels.

so left some entries at home, didn't have time to sort
them. Don't think I'll win anything this year, not organised enough.Well it's bit dreich here too and we're waiting for the heatwave! The potatoes in the field by us have had their final spray (I hope we have too, I often wonder what we've been prevented from developing!) The combines are going strong in another field,
lots of wheat and it's very dry. So it's quite productive round here today but it would be nice to see the sun again.

Not bad today, lovely sunshine at 07.30, nice up until 10.30 when I had just got all my washing hung out we had a slight shower, just enough to warrent taking washing in again

out came the sun once more. Not what you would call hot but pleasant, bit breezy at times but good enough to get lots of work done in the garden, I now have a bad back 2
large wheelie bins full + 5 other garden type bins full, OH will have to make a skip run tomorrow.0 -
Nice sunny day today, OH made a start clearing out the garage, while I made my first ever cheesecake.
This afternoon went to have a look round a few caravans, but nothing really met with all our needs,

Just spent the last two days painting the conservatory. Its a wooden one purchased from Wickes 10 years ago and a retirement project. Still in fair nick.

Well, i have found it is very bad news on the caravan hitch/jockey wheel.
I got my camera on a stalk thingy and investigated the hitch/jockey wheel. Have discovered that we have, for goodness knows how long, been towing with only one bolt holding the hitch to the van, the second bolt is broken!
Now need something which AlKo do not actually offer as a spare!
If we cannot get it soon, we will need to cancel all our intended trips till we can get something sorted.
Not good, in fact frighteningly bad! Goodness knows how long it has been like this. And this does not even begin to cover the jockey wheel problem.
