tried Celeriac. Loved the 'bashit neeps' when we moved to Scotland 1966 we couldn't understand why they called them neeps because to us they were swede, turnip being white, but you get used to it and we now refer to them as neeps. Not one of the vegs we eat
other than in soup or with Haggis of course. When we got married OH would only eat processed peas, its took me years to get him to eat veg. He still won't try brussels or cabbage. I've come across a Spicey Roast veg soup that sounds nice, I will post it in
the food thread that Bakers2 started.Our son-in-law is strange with vegetables.....DD reported that he was buying tinned peas! Apparently she has now managed to convert him to frozen ones. His veggie menu is very basic, nothing exotic like a courgette!
He is not big on salads either.
Very odd, as both his sisters are vegetarian.
You should try the mashed turnip (or swede as it really is) more often. Just mashed with some butter, a little salt and some pepper......delicious!

When we were away in the van in September, we found quite a few shops were getting out their Christmas stuff....we bought some reduced Christmas cards!

Don't need to be so early these days. The fly. Last date for parcels to NZ 10 Dec. If I post cards for birthday they can arrive within one week. Record 4 days .
That said my parcel went last week and I spent this afternoon writing our Christmas cards. Need to use next grey day for cake and puddings
Actually only a very small cost saving in sending by ordinary rather than air mail these days, especially on cards.
Postage has increased massively in the last 5 or so years, we have stopped sending cards to most of my family in Norway, only one to an aged aunt who is in an old peoples home.
Otherwise we send a "news letter" to family and friends abroad and here by e mail as far as possible, and cards with a little note to those not on the web.
We used to send gifts to my sisters, and their children when they were little, but sense has prevailed now. We all already have far too much "stuff", we really do not need to exchange presents any more.
Instead, we spend a lot of time chatting on Skype.
Write your comments here...The lowest cost option is to send ecards. However, the disadvantage is that you can't display them. You can only view them on your computer. So I think a lot of people still prefer the traditional way of hanging cards as part of their Christmas decorations.

Bakers: We are lucky with our son and family living in N.Ireland as we only pay UK postage and things usually get to them the next day. However, Christmas is a challenge as we don't like sending presents in the post as it still costs a lot of money. We
tend to try and get small, light presents and take hold luggage around Christmas time. It is cheaper to pay for hold luggage than a lot of postage. The other option is to get things from that well know internet site
and
get them sent direct to them. Our lovely DIL has solved the problem for her presents as she has asked for donations to Save the Children in Syria.0 -

I send things to NZ and Canada, there's no advantage in early posting (one of my Canadian cousins can use it their end.) I just bite the bullet and send something small with a printed photo news letter. Luckily no young children just a token gift to keep
us all in touch. Very expensive all round. A friend of mine just took a newly repaired saxophone abroad for a relative, it was cheaper to book the saxophone a seat than put it in the hold!!0 -

Finished the day off in a pub in Folkestone ,up in the 'Bayle' famous for it's fresh fish from the harbour.The "British Lion".Good food ,good ale ,good company.Sunny periods this morning (so far).Off for Sunday lunch at another' Black Horse',this time at Monks
Horton (just off the A2068) Run by an Italian family,it's fantastic.Also has a M/home C.L too.£10.00 overnight including EHU,and a discount on the restaurant meals.More power to them !!

Dull grey day today, seems quite fitting given the day. OH gone off to his church parade in the village. I must shake a leg and go and get Mum and stop messing about on here
watching
the parade on TV.Not doing much for the next 4 hours or so just spending time with Mum.

Lovely day here, so blow the housework, we are heading out for a nice canal side walk with the dogs. Then home to a bit of tidying, light the stove, cook a nice meal and just chill out........
(Chilling involves choosing our next short break away, decisions, decisions....)

Mrs One looking very smart in her Scout Leaders uniform off to the remberence day parade at Bradwell Church. Checked the memorial for the last time yesterday and looking really good with new planting by the cubs.

Went to the Remembrance Day Service at the Cathedral. Absolutely packed. Lovely to see a few veterans and so many young cadets in their uniforms all looking very smart. Lovely day for it.

Our eldest was in the air cadets, they do look smart in their uniforms, I remember one year he was asked to be the flag bearer on remembrance Sunday, he was so proud.
