Lovely sunny day here, still chilly but not freezing. Popped into town to take back mine and OH's contact lenses (full boxes) the opticians were very good about it when I explained that we are just not wearing them like we thought we would.

Back home to make more soup since yesterday's was not liked. OH busy in his shed.

Decided to tackle the music system in the lounge, the CD changer had jammed with 3 disc's in it, its a long time since I messed about with anything like that. Removed cover, then front face assembly and the top of the CD changer, fiddled around till I could
extract the CD's one by one. The changer still apeared to be stuck so fiddled around a bit more till I could free it, success!Smile fitted it all
back together after giving it a good dust inside. Now sat listening to the Shadows, Atlantis on at the mo, Cavatina and Apache still to come, bliss. OH seriously impressed Laughing

We have a couple of broken CD players we could send over for you to operate on!!

Now back with 2 large bags of shopping, we got a butternut squash and a big sweet potato to make some soup next week. OH usually adds onions,  garlic and carrots too.  We don' t have a recipe, it's different every time depending on what is in the fridge.

What was in the soup that you didn't like?

Happy birthday tricky. Nice touch for your lunch. I'm up for sharing your cake, I'll even sing if you insist but you may regret it!  November and February birthdays, Hubby's a firework, tend to be grey ones regardless of your age. I escaped to Thailand earlier
this year for mine, so much nicer to have a hot sunny day .

Having a day off today, not done anything this morning.  Apparently we are going shopping soon however.

Yesterday was busy, dropped OH off at DD's house to iron the new curtains, do some bits and pieces and pick up her new toilet seat.

I went to SIL's flat which he rents out as the law up here requires it to be fitted with an updated system of smoke/heat detectors by the end of the month.

Took me several hours to remove the old ones, fiigure out why they had no power (so much for the professional electrician that fitted them!),  fit new ones and get them to "talk" to each other.  Now I have it all figured out it should take much less time
when I go to DD's rented out flat next week to do the same.

Back then to DD's place to fit the new toilet seat and pick up OH.  The new curtains were all up and look good.

Tomorrow we are off to DS's place for lunch, to see the grandchildren, and to help with clearing the lounge and dining room in preparation for a "makeover".

Sounds like a day of rest for you is well deserved. I hope you enjoyed it.

I make a lovely soup with butternut squash, roasted in it's skin, includes tin of coconut milk. I'll look it out if anyone interested. I made pumpkin soup Friday, a first, so easy, pumpkin was 10p .

Well done Tammygirl ,  seriously impressed .  I made sweet potato soup today ,  lots of warming spices cumin ,  ground coriander etc, really nice on a cold day.

Spent the afternoon in our local pub ,  reminiscing about childhood activities, the land lady lived in the same village as OH when they were children.Innocent

I like leek and potato soup, not made it for ages, which recipe did you use? I need to avoid it as I usually search online for a recipe.

How did you cook your sweet potato? Was it light red colour a dark one, Kumar in NZ, taste very different haven't found one here, but some here are much paler when you compare. Not always easy as generally only one sort sold. I generally roast mine or throw
in with mixed roasted veg, always different as depends what's cheap and we have

My soups tend to taste slightly different everytime I make one, probably because I don't use a recipe ,  I've been making them for so  long that I just know what and how much to use. When I made leek and potato soup last time ,  I wasn't that impressed with
    it either.Undecided

Recipe for Leek and Potato was a simple one, just leeks, potato, onions, chicken stock, cream and chives at the end oh and seasoning of course, just tasted bland.

Like the sound of H&T and Bakers2 soups (maybe this should be in the food thread)

I've only tried sweet potato once, cut into wedges blanched them then roasted them in oven, wasn't impressed Frown might be a theme here (could it be my cooking) I do like roated veg by the way.

thanks for liking my post bakers Laughing

Thanks ADD46, what cruise are you thinking of, we are going on a Southern Caribbean one in a months time, this will be our 10th so far, love them.

Hope I've not forgot anyone Embarassed

Sorry Bakers, thought you still had the dog quite a bit. My dog was scared stiff of the whizz bangs, poor little might used to shake and try to hide from them.Sad
