Sites losing business due to Calais problems
Arrived in France yesterday and stayed at la Chaumiere about 25 miles from Calais. Bernadette the owner says they have lost a lot of business this year due to people being put off by the problems in Calais. On disembarking at Calais we had a smooth run
out of the port. There are double rows of fencing, topped with coils of barbed wire, on each side of the road so inbound and outbound traffic was able to travel at about 40/50 mph. The fence extends for about three km from the port towards the motorway.
En route to the motorway we saw workers erecting yet more fencing. Didn't see any sign of immigrants, or police. Of course this was the middle of the day and things may be very different at night. Will give an update when we return, via Calais, in September.
