Positioning of Sanef tag.

Just going to fit my Sanef tag to my windscreen. The instruction says it should be fitted behind the rear view mirror on the shaded part of the windscreen. The problem for me is that on my Sorento this area is only about 50 mm wide. Is this instuction because
sticks better in this area , or is there some other reason?

I think they suggest putting it behind the shaded section for two reasons. Firstly I suspect its a bit more secure if it can't be seen. Secondly there are rules about having things attached to the inside of the windscreen within the arch of the wipers so putting it in the shaded area gets round that. Because my motorhome has a slight cab overhang my Tag is at the bottom of the windscreen and works perfectly well in that position.

I think there may also be a problem caused by windscreen coatings and/or heated front screens which is negated if the tag is placed where they suggest.

Thanks for the support and info. I phoned Kia main dealers but they were as much use as the proverbial chocolate tea pot. Looking at the recieving signal strength my sat nav gets outside the car and what it is when inside makes me think that a signal to
the SANEF tab should be Ok. I'll give it a go anyway.  Thanks all.

Like your car, the shaded area on our Discovery is very small. I just put it behind the mirror and it works fine. We have a heated front screen which doesn't seem to affect its working.

I have a 2014 Sorento. I placed my tag on the shaded area directly behind the rear view mirror. Worked perfectly on our trip to France last year.

The area refered to is secifically for the installation od these types of tags. We used ours in a FIAT 500 and the area in question was quite small, I just made sure as much as possible of the actual tag was behind the shaded area and ours worked faultlessly.

I have a Land Rover Freelander TD4 (2011) and I've never yet found an area from inside the car to make the SANEF tag work. I always end up leaning out of the window and waving it at the sensor.

Has anyone else succeeded with the same car ? Oh and yes, don't use the tag if its once in a monthly period- it is expensive.

HT11, surprised you have a problem with your Freelander. On a similar car I have two tags stuck high either side of the mirror - one for France and one to get me over the bridge from Cornwall into Plymouth - and both work fine,  though the one for France
is the more sluggish of the two.

Well I 've tried different places near the mirror and nothing happens - so frustrating .

I have a MY 13 Freelander and the tag works perfectly. Seems like there is something preventing it working.

Perhaps a phone call to safef in Harrogate might be a good idea? They might have come across this problem before.

We put ours in the tax disc holder but it has to be a certain way around to work.

Hi, I'll be travelling to Paris and Amboise (Loire Valley) in August and was thinking of getting a Tag. A couple of questions:

    1) Is this the cheapest way to do it?

    2) Is there any affiliation with the british toll systems like The Dartford Crossing or the M6 Toll?

    Thanks in advance, Andy.

There is no affiliation with British toll charges.

The cheapest way is to stay off the toll routes altogether, and the next best alternative is a debit or credit card which doesn't charge a transaction fee on toll booth payments.  If you want a tag for the convenience, then the best recommended tag seems
    to be through
    ATMB
who have a special offer where the tag comes free.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Happy to use the tag for convenienve. Unfortunately the link you provided doesn't work. Is this the same place? http://www.atmb.com/en/special-offers/free-subscription-electronic-toll-pass/

When I click on 'I want to subscribe!' I get to this page which is totally in french. Is there an English version?

    https://espaceprospects.atmb.net/Default.aspx?tabid=153&abo=T01&_ga=1.26620669.1552286479.1468834677

If the tag is being shipped over France it would need to arrive by the 4th August.

    Thanks again, Andy

Many thanks. Not sure if I've done the right thing here but after painstakingly translating the subscription page in Google Translate I now have been emailed a contract in French which I need to sign and send back to them.  This will take some time to decipher
and it includes something about being charged an annual fee even if I cancel. Not sure I have time get a tag card this was as I go two weeks on Friday.

For a simple two week holiday in August I'm not sure this is worth the hassle. I believe I can get a tag much quicker via a UK subsidiary. I'd like to be able to get in touch with ATMB but their 0800 number is local to France. Does anyone know an alternative
    number to call them on?

Perhaps I'm concerned over nothing too...

Here's a text I just received from our neighbour - who has just ordered an AMTB tag:

thanks for that..... I actually followed your advice yesterday and found the offer... Did it all in my ever improving French, only to discover that once accepted, you have to sign and return a contract that I was not able to print..... Not only that,
but after faffing about all  morning with the printer, I lost all my reference numbers on the internet link.

So, .....what to do.......will it arrive in time???. I bit the bullet, unraveled that contact number and EUREKA..... English spoken here!!!

Everything is in place..... There is nothing more to do....the tag will arrive, and what's more she will do it today so I should get it on time.

And this friend leaves for France on the 26th July.

Hi ValDa, your friend went through the same problems I did so that's reassuring that things will hopefully turn out ok. Would it be possible to post the ATMB number so I can call them tomorrow?

You could argue for a two week holiday it is questionable whether its a lot of bother to get a tag for what might only half a dozen toll booths. I have the Sanef Tag and their webpage is all in English seems far less hassle to order and set up given that you only save the odd euro here and there, especially if you take advanatage of the CC offer.

Hi David, Yes, that's what I was suggesting in an earlier post. For regular travellers it may be worth it. My only concern is that my credit card has already been validated. I haven't done anything with the electronic form/contract as it's dissapeared and
the link is no longer valid. If that's the end of it then it may be just as well.

Thanks again to all who have replied so far.

We bought a tag for our holiday in 2014, but didn't go to France last year. We went to France in June this year and even though I knew that my sanef a/c was stil active having checked it, I was not at all sure whether the actual tag would still work properly
and there is no way to check it until you drive up to the toll and fingers crossed it works.........in my minds eye I saw myself sitting there with the barrier unmoved with no beep wondering what to do next with a que of irate French drivers building up behind
me. Anyway needn't have worried and phew ! ...at the first barrier it all worked as it should and off we went.

Have just looked at the bill on our arrival back home......trip to il D'Oleron, then to Dordogne and back to St Malo and its approx £35 .......well worth it in my opinion for the ease of travel and largely hassle free roads.  we did go by N roads on several
occasions to get that feel of Being in France just to mix it up but it's sometimes the case you want to get from A To B as quickly as possible.

I had a minor panic a month ago when I got advanced warning of a SANEF bill by email - we haven't been to France this year (apart from a 1 day crossing to wine warehouse) but via return email it was confirmed as the annual fee. We are going on Dec 28 for
a week in a gite with friends - we too hope tag's still working!

Just a quick update to my quest for a tag. I've called ATMB a couple of times and they have no record of my application or the contract I emailed back to them and they suggested I apply again. That said, as it's just a two week holiday I'll wait until the
beginning of next week and if I don't hear anything from my original application I'll get one from
https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/ which would be posted 1st class to me within the UK.

Might as well keep it simple for my first trip into Europe. :)

It looks like my latest email to ATMB did the trick as I've just received a reply saying that I'm now a subscriber and my tag card is on the way to me. Does anyone know how long this would normally take to arrive from ATMB?

I assume its coming from France? If so the French have a pretty efficient post service so probably not much longer that it would be if posted in the UK.
