Great Planning
I have just read in the new club magazine that the CC site and Hawes is being closed from January until July next year. The clever thing by the club is that they are also closing the site at Grassington at exactly the same time so that is almost 300 pitches
in relatively close proximity that are not going to be available for several months. Great planning CC!

...It might be that the cc have got a "deal" with one firm to carry out the work and being "close" both work sites can be tied together by contractors? ,ps no mag yet so do not know what the work is

Over six months to do this at each site seems an awfully long time

...Then it is quite possible that the water and waste supplys will need work as well, and as it is during the "winter" it starts , it could be giving a bad weather allowance ,several sites in recent years have opened earlier than date given

Would either site normally be closed during this period anyway?
It is not at all difficult to bring in a portable toilet/shower block on the back of a lorry. Other work in phases and we the members could continue to use the site.

Sorry John and the "liker"
They are about 60 miles apart via Ripon and about 50 miles apart via Ingleton.
You cannot sensibly take a Caravan over Kidstones pass and there is no CC site in Skipton. The nearest is Bolton Abbey about 7 miles away.
I live in the area.

Why not do one site in 2017 and the other in the second half 2017 or spring 2018 and keep at least one mid Dales site available at all times? It may also have been possible to declare the site as having 'no toilet block' whilst the work is done. Many of
us manage perfectly well at sites or CLs of this sort. The CC could even reduce the capacity so as not to impede the work. At least there would be some income for the CC and many members would probably be happy.0 -
We cannot possibly know why CC have timed the work and closures in this manner. It's certain there will be a good reason though as they won't want to lose more income than is absolutely necessary. We simply aren't party to the reasoning but can't assume it's bad planning as it might actually be very good planning.

Write your comments here...Hawes site opens 1st March to 6th January and Grassington 27th February to 4th January (2015 /16 Handbook dates), so both are usually open almost all year.

They possibly assumed that most members, like me, would accept the inevitability of the situation.
Why not contact CC and ask?

Agree about the planning. Many of uswould use both sites pus probably Bloton Abbey on a visit tothe Dales as a tour. So the Yrkshire Dales closed for CC members for 6 months - Great.
You can stay on my driveway Fish.
Might even take you fyshing on the Wharfe/Ribble

I have stayed several times at another site in Hawes which is only a short walking distance from the CC one. Years ago we stayed at another site just up the road from the CC site too, I had a tent in those days but my parents had a caravan.

There are a lot of sites in the dales, so many the local planning office want to reduce the number of rallies held in the area.

So why did you post that the Yorkshire Dales will be "closed for CC members for 6 months"?

I didn't.
You got me mixed up with someone else.
Easily done.

Please accept my apologies
"I" see my mistake. Obviously we both agree that the Yorkshire Dales are not closed for part of next year.
I hope I haven't upset or offended you. I really must read names more carefully! Sorry.

Sorry-Amending my post- The Dales will be open and no doubt as usual we will come particulatly to fish the Ure. Usually based in Hawes and like another poster we have used the other commercial sites in the past as well as CC. Once you get a taste and find
the quality of other providers you tend not to return to CC.0 -
Six months closure to refurbish the toilets and do some work on the water supplies??
As someone who has worked in construction and as a project manager all my life, frankly that is beyond ridiculous.
I doubt that this sort of work actually requires a closure (using temporary toilet blocks) and at worst a couple of weeks, if there is some safety critical work.
Still, from an organisation that took two years to carry out a light refurbishment of one of the toilet blocks at Broadway, this shouldn't come as a surprise.
I'm afraid that the civil service / council type mentality must operate within the CC HO staff.......plenty more money where that came from and the more we spin it out, the more we protect our jobs.

Contingency planning should anything go wrong, Ian.
It's easier and better practice for them to open earlier than stated than to have to cancel bookings, so disappointing members, should the project over-run.
