Power Supply & Consumption - Some Guidance

We are about to depart for a site in Ireland where the electricity supply is only 6 amps and I am rather conscious that this limit can.easily be exceeded so accurate information about appliances in the caravan is important to avoid tripping out..

In theory a 6 amp, 230 volt, supply would permit usage of up to 1.4kw.

As a result I have two questions and would appreciate some guidance from any members who may be experienced enough to answer.

Firstly, I read in the Club pamphlet "Hooking Up to The Mains" that a battery charger uses 100 watts and needs about 0.4amps which is negligible. The caravan handbook for my Sterling Europa states however that the battery charger uses 690 watts and needs
a supply of around 3 amps. This is vastly different, why?

Secondly, my microwave rated at 1200 watts requires 5.22 amps at 230 volts and more if the voltage is a bit lower.

So, is 5.22 amps a bit too close to the 6 amp limit and risks tripping out?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Peter.
