Internet connections in Europe

I have been reading all sorts of material as to how to get a connection to the internet when we go to Europe. If I use my mobile for emails etc, it will cost plenty but is bearable.

OH likes to Skype the grandchildren though and that is out of the question for a mobile connection as far as I can see.

I have searched the forums but can't find a thread dealing with this.

What do you use please?
