LPG use
We are about to buy a van which has no gas cylinders but LPG. Is it common at all garages here and in Europe. How have people found using it?
Any thing we need to look out for?

we have a refillable LPG tank and use it all over Europe. you will need three adaptors to cover all pump types so get ypur dealer to chick these in as part of the deal.
look at www.filllpg.co.uk for filling points, again by country, should reassure you.
nice to have one point reasonably close to home, so that you can fill whichever direction you are heading....
oh, and gas is a quarter of the price of a normal 6kg calor refill

....but I'm not you, Alan and i camp on sites without EHU so its very useful to me.
even on an ehu pitch, the gas is still gas and still usable. has doesnt suddenly become useless just because theres an EHU bollard on the pitch....
it also seems the OP is interested in touring europe where the ability to fill anywhere will be very useful and an empty Calor bottle is B all use

Sorry but I don't understand Easy T comments. Is whoch a spelling mistake or does it stand for something? We would have ehu but need gas for the cooker there is no electric point and it also has an external BBQ point running on the gas.
Did i confuse matters by referring to our unit as a van? It is not a caravan but a van conversion. I always call it "the van".

My typing Beverley. Instead of whoch read which - adjacent characters on keyboard.
Many caravanners are never off EHU and use little gas. I am away 17 weeks of the year and cook regularly. We get through about 6kg of gas. I think that off EHU the fridge probably uses more gas than cooking. And certainly if I used gas for heating that would have a big impact on usage. It really depends on ones circumstances I suppose.

beverley, many van conversions (PVCs) are being fitted with underslung gas tanks, these days, to free up space in what would have been the gas locker, a good idea...
i think i understood your post, in that you were checking how easy it is to get the tank filled....answer, no problem.
Easy's post was a spelling mistake and should have been 'which'.....he was suggesting (in the way that many 'all-EHU' campers do) that you having access to cheap, readily available gas 'is of Bu**er all use on an EHU site' which, of course, is rubbish.
now that you have a refillable tank, youre not tied to Calor, or other cylinder providers, and you can get your gas anywhere in europe without worrying about juggling cylinders from various places.....
so, youre on your way to being fully independent in your travels, you might even decide that you dont need an ehu supply (you can heat, cook and shower using dirt cheap gas) and touring in somewhere like France (where, unlike dear Easy above) you have access
to the thousands of city/town/village aires where you can just pull in for the night without concern for the need to plug in.similarly, in your go-anywhere van, you can get to smaller sites, again some might not have ehu, but this is now not an issue.
i really hope you enjoy your new van, and you start to explore and get to many, many places....
if you need more advice on confidence re your gas process, have a look in the 'making touring cheaper' section at the 'survive on a non ehu site' thread....loads of encouraging posts to get you out and about.....
