Awning ground sheets

As I have posted before, we are off to France & Spain for 2 months+ in mid March. Our S/H Senator came with a full Dorema awning which we haven't had a chance to erect yet with the lousy weather in the UK last year. My question - is it really necessary to
use a ground sheet in spring/summer in Spain and then France? I don't want to spend  £100+ yet if not really necessary.
