Ferry Prices - First Timer Asking Advice

I am restricted to School holidays.  I live in the North East and after our first year of caravanning we are exploring going abroad.  I just priced up the crossing from Newcastle to Amsterdam for ourselves and the dog however the cost was £800 return.  Is
this the sort of price I will be looking at during shool holidays or will other routes be cheaper.
