Re: What are you all up to
@KjellNN we made our back room/kitchen area into an open plan when we put our stove in. It’s usually fine with just the stove going, but we also have a doorway into hall from kitchen, and as heat rises, we lose some into hall and up the stairs. So a couple of years ago, when energy prices shot up, we put a thick curtain across this doorway, and on really cold nights, we use this curtain so that we are only heating the room we are sat in. What a difference it made. We have heating on from 9pm to warm rest of house, at least the bedroom we use and the bathroom, and open the curtain to let stove heat circulate as well. We use thick lined curtains across all doors and windows and this helps hugely as well. Even a portable screen might help target heat to where you might spend most time, unless of course you have underfloor or just radiators.
We had a nice walk yesterday, round RSPB Old Moor. Didn’t spot much out of ordinary, but the fresh air and exercise was nice. Today has mainly been spent booking some events for later in year, we have afternoon tea booked on both a steam train and a canal barge later in year, football tickets for end of this month. Have to say, some of the booking platforms are atrocious. We had to phone to sort out both trips, and the football tickets😡 Pleasant human beings sorted things in no time. So much for high tech😵💫
RSPB Old Moor. Frozen solid, bitterly cold, but a nice day. Not much around, but we did pick up three interesting books in the second hand book area.

Happy Anniversary @Bakers2 - hope you have a lovely day.
Just got back from Hull Royal - no sign of any snow there but as soon as I was back within 5 miles of home - it was snowing again and still below freezing. The roads around our house are pretty treacherous although the main roads are OK. Thank goodness for the All Terrain tyres on my car😀
Good news from the vascular guy - the scan revealed that the small aneurysm in the artery behind my other knee hasn't changed in two years - so don't need to go back for another two years.
Re: What are you all up to
The Heddon Valley was featured on Countryfile last night. We did that walk many times down to Heddons Mouth as we holidayed in that area for years when our children were young. We also visited again ĺast spring
Re: My favourite touring memory of 2025 was...
We managed about 50 nights away, intermingling them with duties as carers, so every night away seemed precious. We mainly kept to North Wales and Cheshire but did have a lovely 7 night break, mostly in the east touring nature reserves.

Hope you're soon feeling better @Oneputt - and you're able to get away soon. Once we get next week out of the way and I get all my hospital appts out of the way, we'll get something sorted as well.
Bitterly cold again this morning - -2 degrees when I took Meg out. Here's a photo of the view from the back of our house. Most unusual to get snow here on the coast, but this time we seem to have been singled out to get it!
Re: My favourite touring memory of 2025 was...
We have managed nearly 250 nights away this year, composed of 5 trips of over 30 nights and a short one, for us, of 11 nights. We have been fortunate to meet up with other CT members, which are always memorable, as well as family. We have used a wide variety of site, Club and C&CC ones, a regular commercial site, CLs and CSs and also a number THS. I personally think I most enjoyed our spring visit to Scotland, going up to West coast, across to Speyside and back down the east coast to Northumberland before heading home. As well as another Scottish visit we also explored parts of East Anglia and, on a different trip North Wales. Hopefully we will be able to do similar in 2026.

Re: What are you all up to
Awoke to a dusting of snow and VERY LOW temperatures.
Happy New Year to all, just distracting myself with a pop on here before emptying kitchen cupboards and setting up temporary kitchen in the utility room. Kitchen refit starts Wednesday.
Took the Christmas decorations down yesterday, early for us,as we like them up for our wedding anniversary on the 5th. It'll be the 1st one without.
Had a lovely walk, my foot allows me to set off from the front door now 🤞, I haven't done this walk for about a year...... The air is really clear, fantastic view over The Fens, almost to King's Lynn 🤣🤣. Photos only on my phone,so you'll have to zoom in for detail. I see this field from our bedroom window, access is through as grass meadow and the footpath well used and tge clay, even as dust, balls on your footwear if the grass is damp, so it was a delight and solid this morning.
Re: What are you all up to
We have had some rain showers this afternoon, one of which Flyte and I got caught in, the first since we came to East Cheshire 10 days ago. It is clear at the moment but getting quite cool. I hope it doesn't freeze overnight as we head home tomorrow before the bad weather sets in. @RedKite it has not been cold up to now but things look to be changing.
@richardandros I don't know the story behind the sculpture but have sent an email to the local ranger service asking the question. I will keep you updated. Our car needs a really good clean but thst may well have to wait for a while as I don't like it too cold when working outside. Guess it is an age thing as I didn't used to bother too much when I was working down the shipyard berth.
Enjoy your ride tomorrow @Takethedogalong it would be a shame it the weather deteriorated enough to stop you going.
This is another smart house which I passed on my afternoon walk today, Marton Hall, a private dwelling.
