Re: What are you all up to
Well, it sounds like we have escaped some pretty awful weather over the last few weeks. Sorry to hear of fellow CTers maladies but we have found the climate here in CR very agreeable for this aches and pains older age brings. As a means of cheer here are a few photos.
Re: What are you all up to
@nelliethehooker thanks for asking, our son and family in NI seem to have escaped without any major damage fortunately and after nearly 48 hours without power it was restored this morning. I hope you get your sites directory soon so that can plan your next trip.
@Takethedogalong that looks like a marvellous afternoon. Was the tea a special occasion?
@Wherenext so sad for you having to get rid of so many of your walking books and maps. I commiserate as we felt the same when we had to give up caravanning a few years ago. We had such marvellous times both in France and the UK. Lots of happy memories and I so wish we could do it all again. We passed a lot of our books and maps to the bookshops in NT properties such as Felbrigg and Bickling.
I had a great morning yesterday as it was the Katherine of Aragon Festival to commemerate her death and
burial in Peterborough Abbey (as it was then). I led one of the tours. Luckily I didn't have to dress up but those that did looked magnificent.

Re: Non-EHU Sites List
I think and hope that more and more people will start to see a way through new technologies to enjoy much cheaper holidays without ‘going back to basics’ as the CMHC likes to call it. I have now been off grid for four years and have saved a serious amount of cash on pitches with EHU. I have had brilliant holidays with everything I needed. I accept totally that the EHU has its place, particularly in winter but most of the year the SP keeps everything up and running. If only the CMHC would accede to my request to do a full article on ‘Modern’ offgrid caravanning. I have made two requests and been promised a result- the first over 3 years ago and I’m still waiting. Perhaps they really don’t want to go down the rabbit hole as they would be frightened by what they found? So it’s up to this forum to put the message out. I have been contacted by caravanners around the country who have heard the message and to a man, they have been thrilled with what they have done to get away from the umbilical cord. I look forward to next week- my first foray with my new lithium battery. 1/4 weight of 2 lead acids and many more advantages. It’s a very exciting time with technology, and we all have the chance to use it and to reduce fossil fuel use. I believe the non EHU sites have a much better future now than they ever have had. Thanks Johnny for your work in this field- no pun intended 🤣🤣🤣
Re: Non-EHU Sites List
Love this thread. Well done John- just the sort of input we need. Great to see non EHU getting a fair hearing on the Forum which is more than I can say for the CAMC magazine!
Re: What are you all up to
drove past our big Tesco car park this afternoon….not one scanner but two now in there, they are cracking on (please excuse the pun) around here, but obviously only for patients that it suits.
Lovely afternoon having an afternoon tea with lots of family. Food was delicious, and lots of it, in fact everyone took some home. We came back via an Arts installation in our town centre, some lovely lights, stories, images, puppets, all aimed at children and families, very nice
Re: What are you all up to
I don’t think Blue Badges have anything to do with benefits, it’s more about how far the applicant can walk. Under no circumstances put more than 20 metres or it’s likely to be rejected. Having supporting evidence from a GP etc…. Is good. What really annoyed me was all the paperwork, which might indeed have asked about any benefits received, but quite why I am not sure.
I think the last time I applied it was being overseen by DVLA, but I think it’s back with LA’s now, haven’t checked. I do recall taking Dad, in his wheelchair, aged 87 into our local council offices for his renewal. Took all new photos, queued with everyone else to be seen by a bored clerk. Lots of questions, what about this, what about that, all politely answered. I was fine until she asked was there any likelihood of him walking in the next twelve months. At which point Dad, who was clearly biting his tongue, piped up and said his name was Anthony not Lazarus! 🤣
Re: What are you all up to
We are very excited! Taking our first ever caravan ( a 2013 Coachman VIP/460 2 berth called Pearl) on our Maiden Voyage tomorrow. We live in Ashford, Kent but we store her in Staplehurst and we are doing two nights in nearby Goudhurst, Tanner Farm club site (literally 15 minutes from the storage site). However, came over to the storage yard today to take off her pyjamas (full cover) and put on her brand new towing cover, only to find the leisure battery is completely flat! She's been in storage since the beginning of December and it is a very 'hardy' leisure battery according to Halfords. It's about 2 years old, an LHB800. Frantically trying to charge it via our trickle feed charger at home atm and hoping there will be enough juice in it when we set off to go to Goudhurst tomorrow as we would rather use our motor mover than us shoving it about to hook up. We are complete novices to caravanning and there have been so many 'snags' that freak us out! We live in the hope that the more we are going out, the easier this will become :-)
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Re: What are you all up to
Back home from a day out yesterday. We were extremely lucky that our only day free this week happened to be yesterday as the weather was glorious. A sunny, warm, no wind day. We had a stroll alongside the sea defence wall at Leasowe on the north coast of the Wirral, walking down to Hoylake passing the oldest brick built lighthouse in the UK and the second oldest in Europe., the oldest being in Switzerland😂
There is a monument to an RNLI crew outside the station at Hoylake They unfortunately lost their lives in service of trying to save others in 1810 whilst rowing out to a ship. Quite sad when you read that fathers and teenage sons were among the crew. The monument is of a crewman using the oars of the day in a longboat.
Re: What are you all up to
Home now. Was allowed to leave yesterday just before lunch time. Son picked me up and took me to our daughter’s house as OH was there to look after the boys. I have various pills to take, will need to contact GP for an additional supply of the new antibiotics as they are to be taken for 6 weeks. Finding it surprisingly tiring meantime so had a snooze later, and another one after dinner. Nice to be back in my own bed.
No snow here but very cold
