Re: What are you all up to
We may not be away, but we’ve still got views! As well as our main farm we have some land up near Killington Service Station on the M6. I believe you can see the lake from there. And maybe our heifers across the other side.
And back down home in the new dairy - a highly complicated piece of kit.
Re: What are you all up to
More grand photos @DSB you are really mixing up your visits! @DEBSC, so sorry to hear that your granddaughter was taken in to hospital so suddenly, but pleased that she has been discharged and that she has such support around her.
@Wherenext glad that MIL is taking care of herself during this hot weather.
We were away early from the Bakewell site and had only a short, 20 ml, tow to our latest location, a THS overlooking Carsington Reservoir, arriving around 10:20. Lots of room, on two fields, and about 28 units here tonight. En route we were flagged to slow down by a couple of cars. We suspected a speed check, but it turned out to be a road accident involving a PSV, which was on the wrong side of the road, and at least one other car, which must have just recently occurred as the police hadn't arrived when we passed. It has bern another hot day but thankfully there has been a breeze blowing across the site which make it feel much more comfortable here. We took a walk, after lunch, down from the site to the reservoir, and were surprised just how low the water level is.
Looking towards the dam.
.Looking across the watersport centre, note the Great White Egret to the right front.
This sculpture can be found on the Stone Island Trail.
Re: Photo of our unit on site!
ThIs is our caravan on our pitch at the C&CC's Bakewell site, with Flyte in the middle of having his lunch.
Re: Share your hidden gems!
I could name a dozen beaches in Cornwall, but as Tinny says with the Caveat that most are only for the firm in limb and balance.
We used to walk to Polridmouth Cove from Bodinnick. You have to cross the River Fowey via the vehicle ferry, walk right through the lovely town until you get to Readymoney Cove (nice, but busy), then climb up stairs from beach and pick up coastal footpath, which has a number of little coves to explore. Polridmouth has a beautiful lake at its back, with private cottage adjacent, and just up the hill lies Menabilly where Daphne Du Maurier once lived. The cove is supposed to be the setting for the boat wreck scene in Rebecca. There is a farm field car park which is around 3/4 mile walk from beach, but again it’s a walk for sound joints. It wasn’t that busy when we used to go in the late 1980’s, early 90’s, as most folks arrived via the water.
Other end of England, Cocklawburn Beach Northumberland. It’s not far from Berwick, and the parts close to the coastal road can get a bit busy, but once the road ends, it’s easy to walk the coastal path along the dunes and find relative solitude. Stunning dune backed beach, with lots a sea life, rock pools, seals and dolphins just out at sea. It’s possible to walk for miles, and you have Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne in view. We have swum many a time here, but bear in mind it’s the North Sea, it’s best late August, early September.
Polridmouth Cove. You can see the coastal path coming in from top right from Fowey. The main beach area is mid photo on the left backed by the lake, with lots of little coves close by. Another path is cut into the rock to the right of the lake in the woods, up to farm car park. This photo is taken on the footpath that leads up to Gribbin Head, a day marker on the cliff top.
Cocklawburn Beach, a pooch paradise.
Re: What are you all up to
We've been to Godrevy today. Didn't walk down to the beach but spent a long time sitting on the grassed area overlooking St Ives Bay, before retiring to Costa in Hayle.…

Re: What are you all up to
Phew. Hope those folks out touring with dogs finding some shade for them.
We were a bit tardy in rising this morning so decided to go for a local walk, after moving the Van from pitch 2 to pitch 1. Long story that I won't bore you with. Took all of 5 minutes
Didn't go mad with walk so back at Van for 1pm so decided to walk to the pub for lunch. Sitting in the shade now. We're thinking of leaving late tonight to avoid heat due tomorrow.

Re: What are you all up to
Wonderful photos, David @DSB - it's also a very long time since we were there.
Had a good result this morning. You may remember my almost fruitless search for pilchards - for Princess Meg!! Ended up paying an extortionate £3.50 a can on the internet - which seemed to be the going rate. Well, yesterday one of my spies (a dog walking friend😂) told me she had seen some in Heron Frozen foods, of all places. Never been in there in the 12+ years we have lived here. Sure enough - a shelf was stacked with them at…….£1.09 a can😪!!!!! Cleared the shelf and came out with a very large carrier bagful. Should keep her going for a while!
