How old is the vehicle? If it was first registered before January 1997 you will not get a Crit Air certificate . If it is Younger than that you will probably get one, but perhaps only Grade 4 or 5 - and certain towns and cities will only let you in with certificates better than that. For instance Grade 3 (or better) is required for much of Rouen.

@2012musiclover Just copy your V5C as a .jpg (photofile) and attach it to your application. If your V5C does not state your Euro engine classification the autorities seem to issue the crit air sticker based on the age of the vehicle and whether it is fueled by petrol or diesel.

It was first registered in 2005 but I can’t find out the CO2 emissions as it isn’t on the V5C form and the French want a digital version of the V5C to be attached to my application and I’ve no idea how to obtain one.

Take a photo of your V5C with your phone and then follow the instructions on the Crit-air website to attach it to your application.

You are not alone in not having the CO2 emissions shown on your V5C, I don't have it on my document for a 2015 MH. You don't need to fill in the emissions details as they somehow work them out from the copy of your registration document.

    Good luck!

On a related subject, Large swathes of France can now be restricted temporarily (the ZFE areas) when certain climate conditions prevale, how do you find out when this happens?

Just a thought. Since brexit DVLA has not been sharing driver / owner / vehicle details with them over there. If you apply for a Crit-Air cert you will be giving those details to the French authorities. If you get pinged for a traffic offence those details will be used. Without the details they can't do much. That said I have Crit-Air certs on both my vehicles but have never knowingly needed them.

I had not known about the temporary enforcement of emissions control through weather conditions. I think I’ll have to hope it doesn’t happen in the areas I drive through. Since I stay on French motorways as much as possible when travelling between sites, I think I should be OK.

Thanks for the help with applying for French Emissions Certification. I managed it OK using JPEG copies of V5C form pages. I even found out CO2 emissions data using Google Chrome AI search. At 220-255 it wasn’t good news but I hope to avoid city driving whenever possible.
