Porto to Santander Caravan route

Hi.
Can anyone recommend the best caravan and quickest towing route from Vila Nova de Gaia (Porto) to Santander, preferably with the least steep descents ? We have allowed 3 days travelling time.
I am considering the route via A4 Vila Real / IP3 A52 towards Benavante/A66 towards Leon/then A231 and A67 towards Reinosa.
Any suggestions for easy access overnight stop overs would be much appreciated. We have a 7.8m caravan.
Thank you.

You have allowed yourself more than enough travel time. I won't recommend a route but do stick to the toll free motorways in Spain. Their roads are very good and easy to drive. Most Portuguese motorways are toll roads and can get expensive. The normal main road are free and normally of excellent quality.

"Most Portuguese motorways are toll roads and can get expensive"
From 1st January, many of the Portugese tolls roads are now free, (but not all). Tolls have been abolished on the following :
- A4: Transmontana and Túnel do Marão
- A13 and A13-1: Pinhal Interior
- A22: Via do Infante (Algarve)
- A23: Beira Interior
- A24: Interior North
- A25: Beiras Litoral and Alta
- A28: North Coast, between Esposende and Antas, and Neiva and Darque
The Portuguese Parliament approved the toll exemption in May 2024. The decision was made to reduce travel costs and improve traffic flow.
