Over 30 days away from home House & Contents Insurance?

Can anyone recommend a reputable company that offer decent policy cover if away from home for more than the standard 30 days cover? I am aware the Caravan & Motorhome Club provide 90 days but I would like to know if anyone has any experience of dealing with them? Saga also provide a 60 day cover but get terrible reviews. I welcome any ideas or comments. Thanks :-)

Have you contacted your current provider? Most companies automatically have a cap at 30 days to keep premiums low, but will extend the cap for a fee.

We have Admiral "Gold" cover, which includes 60 days unoccupied cover.

We use M&S and they are linked to AXA. We have 90 days absence cover which I believe is standard.

Another thing you have to check with home insurance is whether the days allowed for unoccupancy is the total allowed or the number of days on one trip. We change to the Club insurance as we needed to be certain.

I am with Privilege who allow up to 60 days away. However you can go away from longer but they have (fairly sensible) stipulations especially if you are away over winter.

    Hi Colin

Thanks for your response. Much appreciated. I have contacted my current provider who said they won't extend beyond 30 days. I will give Admiral a go and see what premium they can offer. There are a few who offer this but most premiums are a rip off.

    Thanks again for your reply.

Do check your policy conditions for over 30 days unoccupancy. It probably will require the house to be checked on a regular basis for that period and heating during Winter. Most companies with a 30 day limit will allow this to be increased subject to similar requirements, you just have to ask.
