New club book and map arrived yippee
hi pleased to announce our new club site book and map has arrived, yes you can call me old fashion but with the unreliability of the app etc the book is best, for me anyway.

Funny that. I emailed the club last week asking when they'll be sent out and was told early next year. I contacted them mainly due to the fact I've not been receiving the magazine despite my preferences showing that I wanted both that and the S.D. I like having a S.D. to hand as well.

I hope that it will be there, at home, when we get back from our current trip, as I ticked the box requesting it. We will then get down to planning our first trip for next year.

@KjellNN There was an email asking us to opt out, my email was dated 21st August.

@DavidKlyne I too have a copy of that email from that date, which says that if I did nothing the hard copy SD would be sent to me as per normal.

Ours arrived this morning. I'll open it tomorrow!

No sign of it here.

@nelliethehooker Actually I forgot to open it!

Mine arrived today and I love them, I didn’t get them when I joined in 2023! A directory and map is so much easier than using the website 😊

Good to see that the email I sent to the club seems to have worked and both the S.D. and Januarys' magazine arrived. Funny how our local postal hub that was suggested by the club as being to blame seem to have got their act together following an email they knew nothing about!😂

@Francis I too like to go through the new Site Directory and I highlight facilities we require (or don't such as no dogs) and mark up sites we have visited or that have been recommended. We like to carry out current SD in the caravan but put the previous issue the car for use enough route to sites

Our first ever magazine and site directory arrived on Monday. Super excited as we are total newbies. Bought our caravan in November and itching to get out. Been watching YouTube caravanning videos 24/7 to get hints and tips and completed a caravan towing course in readiness, but still really nervous about finally going on our maiden voyage. The directory is great to choose our sites and easier to use than doing it online.

@Maplesparents once you have selected a site, especially if you intend using CLs, it is worth looking the site(s) up on line and read all the recent reviews. When heading to an unfamiliar site use the route as printed, do not be tempted to use the post code on your way Sat Nav, and perhaps look up the route on Google Maps or the map on the site's web page.

@nelliethehooker thank you for your advice, much appreciated! Our biggest worry is to be led down a tiny, one track road by mistake as manoeuvring is still an anxiety provoking experience for us, especially reversing!

@Maplesparents said "Our biggest worry is to be led down a tiny, one track road by mistake". It’s not sites being down unsuitable roads that concerns him but taking such roads by mistake.
The way to avoid mistakes is to navigate carefully as has been explained above. Obviously, any club site will have manageable access for caravans/motorhomes but always read the directions and warnings.3 -
@Maplesparents but who is going to lead you down these roads by mistake? As people have been saying preparation and therefore avoiding mistakes is the key, plan your route, look at it, go on street view/google maps and recheck.
The directions given by the club are (virtually) foolproof, they will give you a main road (and certainly a not single lane) to approach the site from all directions and you simply follow them, if you are unsure then stop and check. As said don't rely on sat nav for the last few miles.
I had similar concerns when first starting out but I personally found out that these occasions are very rare indeed. I've never had to reverse outside of a site.
I'm sure if you post the site you're considering there will be people on here who have been there and will give advice if needed.

Thank you all for the advice and encouragement 😊 we have booked our first 4 night stay at the Winchester Morn Hill site in early March. Very excited! We are storing our caravan in Staplehurst, Kent so we didn't want to go too far for our first longer trip. We are also hoping to book a 'test night' at Tanner Farm Park site, Goudhurst, that would be a very short tow, about 10 minutes, prior to that trip. Since buying our caravan last November, we haven't been able to try it out properly. We had it on our drive and tested the water and electric. All fine, but didn't use the gas or toilet or slept in it. It's a 2013 Coachman VIP 460/2 and it's in great condition. We bought it from a lovely couple who owned it from new and looked after it so well, chuffed to bits that we found it.

@Maplesparents hope all goes well for your first proper trip. It is a good idea to try every bit of kit on a site close to home before heading off for a few days just to ensure you have all the important bits and pieces you will need. Just don't be tempted to start buying pieces specifically for the caravan as, if you are like us, will have lots of stuff, utensils and crockery etc, at home you can take to use initially.
