Hi Guys,

Looking for advice regarding awnings. I am looking to purchase an inflatable awning and my vehicle is 2.89m high.

Any advice on a good awning that is not a marriage breaker to put up. 😂😂

I think you are relatively new to owning a motorhome. I suggest you use your motorhome for a while to make sure you really want an awning. You may find you do not really need it. If you decide you definitely want one be aware inflatable awnings are very heavy compared to those with frames. I have never owned one but did consider it at one time and was looking at one made by Dorema but they seem not to make drive away ones anymore. >Vango,< a reputable make, do one the size you want but how easy they are to handle I have no idea. I have a Khyam Quick erect drive away awning which is very easy to put up but takes a lot of pegging out and in very strong winds it is prone to collapsing. I question if I have used it more than 5 times in 12years. It sits in my loft most of the time but is there if I want to use it which is usually on over winter trips to Spain where I have stayed on one site for quite some time. Even then I have used it free standing because I have always found it very fiddly to connect to the motorhome and difficult to create a good connection.

The above are just my views, others may thing differently but perhpas it is at least gives you something to think about.

The connecting to the motorhome was a thought I hsf that msy be a problem. We have a son and girlfriend who want to come to Europe next year with us. Even though the van is a 4 berth I was looking for the extra space really.. Thankyou

At least an awning gives you the option of an additional bedroom. I have also used it for that purpose when we have had grandchildren with us.

I don’t know what payload you have in your van, @Fozdog_71 but PD is correct that air awnings are very heavy. Then you’ll have 4 people and all their gear….. Check carefully.

Another option, and one we have used in the past when our youngest son used to travel with us, is a pup tent

My experience is that even small awnings are quite heavy and bulky and unless you have a large payload, with all the other equipment you carry to enjoy the outdoor life, your MH payload can easily be exceeded.

Our solution is to carry a 2m x 2m Kampa Kitchen tent for use on extended trips and to use just our 4.5m roll-out canopy (with lightweight windblocker or sunshade for shelter/shade/privacy) at other times.

We have a 3 man tent that is permanently in our moho for the purpose of additional visitors which allows us to comply with any rules…… a double air bed fits in snugly & can be manoeuvred around our pitch easily enough for day/night usage of the area….
