Audi Q5 and Range Rover Evoque PHEV
Hello all, I currently run a diesel and am looking to change my car for a PHEV. We tow a Swift Challenger caravan with a MTPLM of 1434kg and I would appreciate if any members have an experience of towing a caravan with either an Audi Q5 or Range Rover Evoque in the PHEV fuel format? I am interested to know the fuel economy when towing and roughly how many miles are achieved when running on combined battery/petrol mode. Likewise, when towing on just petrol mode what MPG I can expect? Any views on this or any aspect of either vehicle would be really helpful and appreciated. Thank you for your time in reading this post.

@Towmobile I would do a lot of research around the reliability and suitability of the RR Evoque, plus take a look at the cost of insuring one. Niece of ours has just got rid of one (not used as a tow vehicle, but daily commuting). Not satisfied with the reliability, and couldn’t get a reasonable insurance quote (not even from LR insurance). Cannot comment on the Audi.

I'd be thinking the same. Whilst I like the looks of the Evoque, I believe the likes of Whatcar usually have it amongst the top 10 least reliable of cars. Scan down through this article and you will find it:-

I have a Q5 PHEV. Tows well (not as well as the Disco 4 I had, but then few cars would). TBH I've never tried to measure consumption whilst towing, but basically you'll be on the engine most of the time due to the extra load and, as with any car, can expect mpg to drop by 1/3 to 1/2.
We had an Evoque (petrol, not PHEV) for a month as a courtesy car. While I did like it we found the boot space was very limited. You'd be better looking at a Disco Sport than that.

We are on our second PHEV originally a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 PHEV and now a Suzuki Across (rebadge Toyota RAV4 PHEV). Fuel consumption towing with PHEV you will find 25% of your towing journey on EV regeneration, we tow between 50 -55mph at 50mph we see as high as 35/36 (measured brim to brim at the petrol station) at 55mph this can drop down to 32/33, at 60mph it drops significantly down to 28/29mpg, I hope this helps
