Just looking at all the East-West, West-East routes that are closed at the moment. In our neck of the woods, Snake Pass and Woodhead both closed, bit further up A66 is closed. I bet the M62 is awful, it was blocked a couple of times yesterday. Keep safe folks🙁

Bert is here on the East coast as well (what a daft name for a storm🙃) - Meg and I had the shortest walk ever, this morning - and both came back soaked! She's currently lying in front of a big log fire. There's umpteen little jobs around the house that need doing - but I think they will have to wait until this lot passes over. Saw the A66 on the news this morning - looked decidedly grimm - hope it's all gone by Wednesday for my trip up to Tebay again.

Woke to about 5 cm of snow, and it continued for quite a while, but no wind, we seem to have missed the worst of it, so far anyway, but it is very cold, heating has been running all day in sitting room and kitchen, and one bathroom.

We have a busy week coming up so today have been preparing for the craft fair next Saturday, selecting what to take, pricing things, seeing if there is anything more I need to make. DD has been doing a good trade on line selling my spurtles, so I think I will make a few to take along, plus some Christmas trees in various sizes. None left from last year, so they must have sold well.

Too cold to work in the garage at present, so hoping the milder weather arrives soon, only really have tomorrow and Monday available for woodturning.

No snow here but rain and high winds with the current temperature a balmy +9C. Went to watch Sophie play football this morning, their opponents decided they had enough just before half time. Now waiting for a parcel delivery.

    Stay safe and cosy everyone

No snow here just a very wet, dark and miserable day. Son in N. Ireland rang this morning and the weather over there is dreadful. 60 mph winds and driving rain since 10.00 pm last night. Yesterday was the Christmas Market at the Cathedral. I was on duty in the shop during the morning where it was very busy and also very cold as the doors were wide open to let all the visitors come in. OH came to join me when I finished so we could have a look round. There were some lovely stalls and I made a few purchases for Christmas - well it would have been rude not to!

I hope you are keeping safe on your travels @nelliethehooker during storm Bert - what a silly name for a storm.

    Lovely photos @Cornersteady .

Around 6.00pm I went out to put something in the bin and the outside temperature was not dissimilar to a summers evening, weird! I seem to have a cold so perhaps I am misjudging how warm it is?

Sounds very weird! We have about 2-3 degrees here at present.

    We still have snow lying.

Thanks @milliehull we are quite well sheltered on site. It had snowed a bit through the night, and the temperature outside was +2, but we have had rain and winds all morning and for some of the afternoon and evening. I did manage a couple of short walks out, in full set weather gear, with Flyte, and our daughter came round for a few hours. She couldn't stay overlong as she had only got home from the Netherlands last night and is off to Brussels tomorrow morning, so had things to do at home before going. The temperature had now risen to 12C, the wind has dropped and hopefully the rain too for our last walk out. Hope that all went well at the Cathedrals Christmas Fair and you haven't caught a chill serving in the shop. It sounds horrendous over at your son's, fingers crossed that they have no power cuts or suffer any damage at home.

@DSB hope the storm passes over before you head off tomorrow and you get to your chosen site safely.

Grand photos @Cornersteady, hope you able to get into the snow on the fells tomorrow.

Did exactly the same thing David and whilst a 'summer's evening' would be a slight exaggeration, it was noticeably a lot warmer (or was that just 'less cold'!) Wind here shifted to the SW from a northerly so that would account for it.

Blowing quite hard here at the moment but that's due to abate soon.

It's extremely breezy here at present. We have a roof off 😱😱😱😱.

    Fortunately only the playhouse.

It was as much as I could do to hold my phone still to take the photo! This is back of the house and the wind is coming onto the front. I opened the bedroom window, as usual, it was almost snatched from my hand. And that was having a tight hold as it looked blowy!

Some leaves, especially those on the sycamore tree are holding on well.

Another street walk for the dog as I can't imagine what it's like in the open. Listening to it coming down the side of the house, she'll be lucky to get the length of the close anytime soon!

SStay Safe folks, there's the error again! Better not to venture out unless it's essential - well certainly here.

No idea how come to have a blank post. I did edit my previous one ??? I like the longer edit time.

Back from a dog walk. Overdressed despite noting the temperature! 18c madness..... Heavy mizzle from time to time. Wind sounding like an approaching train. Didn't see anyt nasty damage on property's that I passed.

Did manage to have a time off lead in the meadow, even that was mucky in the well walked bit so didn't even look at next field, always mucky, as requires going through kissing gate and up 3 steps, that would cause disappointment!

@DavidKlyne hope you feel better soon. Glad it's not covid. There seems to be a lot of it about!

All snow gone when we woke this morning. Not sure how reliable the temperatures displayed by our heating system are for this area , but according to it we had a sudden spike at 4am, when it rose from 3 degrees to 13 degrees outside, but now fallen back to 10 degrees. Certainly much more acceptable!

Some sun early on, but now grey again. At least I will not get frozen in the garage while making spurtles. 8

@DavidKlyne - hope you're soon feeling better David, I know I was feeling pretty miserable when I got it a few weeks ago.

It's positively tropical here today - the odd shower but it's been warm enough for me to be outside in a short-sleeved T-shirt. Can't believe the change from two days ago.

Managed to get my new Tyrepal monitor linked up to the sensors on the van this morning. Been putting it off - partly because of the weather but more about the serious messing about I had setting up the last one, 6 years ago. This time I had the sensors paired to the monitor in no time at all and it went perfectly as per the instructions. Perhaps they've improved the software - or the instructions - or perhaps I just read them properly this time😉

We had a great evening yesterday, full of love and memories. Lots of BIL’s ex pupils an d colleagues there, as well as family. I got to lead some memory tours around my old school, the core that I can remember, wood panelled and tiled classrooms are still there and looking smart.

Pretty wild here in early hours, and it’s currently 16c outside🤷‍♀️ But the days of sub zero temps and a couple of wild storms have more or less finished off the Summer/Autumn plants now. I have cut some struggling rose buds this morning to put in a vase indoors. Plenty of work out there to get stuck into when it’s a bit drier though. I am having a similar day to you K, packaging stuff for a shop in town. Plus going to have an hour up in OH’s attic man cave with him, trying to set up a couple of bike trainers.

Hope those away get kind weather, those not too well get better soon.

Very wet out so a morning spent clearing the kitchen cupboards out, we have a lot of them. Anything pulled out to go to the charity shop I took a photo of first and put it on the family WhatsApp group, just our son and daughters family, to see if they wanted anything first, no takers yet. It’s very strange that I take things out to get rid of them but then can’t get everything else back into the cupboard that they all came out of! I suppose things just ‘settle in’ over the years. I’m not very good at getting rid of stuff though, I have a ‘I might use that one day’ mentality.

Wet all day yesterday as well, so cooking all morning, lots more soup made and in the freezer. Unusually for me in the afternoon I settled down and watched a film, Joy, about the first IVF baby Louise Brown, I really enjoyed it. Bill Nighy was brilliant as usual. Some of it showed the opposition to IVF in those days. Knowing a young family ourselves whose whole life was changed for the better by having twins who were conceived in this way made it all more real. I was surprised to hear that since then 12 million babies have been born this way.

Youngest grandson has decided on what he would like for Christmas, ear buds, as they won’t flatten his hair like his headphones do 🤣 Kids.

That reminds me of the old saying "If at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to."🤣

Whilst we had our fair share of snow last week Bert proved to be a non show in the main, although it was pouring off next doors broken gutter like a waterfall at 4 this morning. No worse than some of the Becks and rivers we've stayed next to over the years though. We had a new garage door fitted last month and it hardly rattles in a strong Southerly whereas our old one would wake you up.

Hope you know the name of a good roofer @Bakers2 as that looks like an expensive job.

OH thought things were looking up as we got some nice sun at lunch time, so was thinking to do some washing to use the free electricity from our panels, but it did not last, back to cloudy and grey, and suddenly quite strong gusts of wind. Hopefully will not last too long.

Got 4 spurtles made so far, each one takes about 20 minutes in total (preparing the wood and turning the spurtle) and should sell for £4. Buying beech to make them from was 50p each, so I could earn £10-£11 for my hour’s work. Unfortunately the price of the beech is increasing, so the next lot I buy will work out at 75p each.

We only go to the craft fairs near Christmas, so I have yet to make anything approaching the £1000 per annum that HMRC allow people to make from their hobbies before having to declare it for tax. We have a couple of members of our woodturning club that do go to a lot of venues and seem to sell quite a lot of items, some very fancy, but generally speaking I think it is quite difficult to make a good living out of woodturning unless you can sell your items in some very upmarket places.

The on-line marketplaces like Etsy take a sizeable cut, more than one might think. There are a few gift shops in town that will take your items to sell on a sale or return basis, but, having looked into it, it turns out that they are even worse than Etsy! Think we will just stick with the local craft fairs.

Alas still no snow @nelliethehooker but very windy, with gales over tops which put paid to any high level walks. However a lovely walk along the mine road to Force Crag mine which closed in 1991. Still very gusty but also quite warm. Then some great cakes and hot drinks at the cafe opposite the CCC site in Braithwaite.

Still blowing a 'hooley' here. We went out this morning and very nearly got blown off our feet! Son in NI who phoned yesterday did say that their bad weather was going to make it's way over here. Now dark and raining. We were talking to some friends this morning who lost a ridge tile from their roof last night and considered themselves lucky that it did not land on their car. The weather forecast does look a lot better for tomorrow. I hope so as we are meeting some friends for lunch. It is our 'Christmas' get together as one of them is due to have a knee replacement on 3rd December so won't be going out and about for a while.

I hope all those feeling poorly get better soon. Lots of nasty bugs around at the moment.

After some heavy rain through the night we have a dry, warm but dull day and the wind has died down. Lots of lying water although much of it had gone by the afternoon and apart from small branches and plenty of leaves down there was no sign of any damage round and about. Boots needed for walks from the van but much better than yesterday.

@Cornersteady shame there is no snow for you, grand photos. That is a popular walk with Kerry and his Springer spaniels... "Max Out in the Lake District" on Facebook.

Glad that is the only damage you suffered from the storm@Bakers2 it should be able to be fixed without too great an expense.😉

Sounds like a lovely evening for ones and all tda.

( Still can't get the @ to work on a regular basis as I keep getting only 5 options, often with the wrong starting letters!! It is a real PIA!! There is also no way of highlighting a word, at least on my Kindle! )

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and those that are not feeling very well have soon recovered.

Being bored, no new posts, whilst eating breakfast. Found who's online, a few avatars + 21 so I clicked on @redkite and typed in the leave a comment box. Be interested to know if she finds it???

    @redkite hadn't worked. Also 1st attempt got double r.

@RedKite a choice offered, only r's, after the @ sign

Was actually going to tag @Rowena for interest.

When I typed the @ I got lists of random letters, not ones I've used.....

....a couple more photos in the Name that CAMC site? thread... This is the first time I've used the link button below, so fingers crossed it'll work.... 🤞

Lovely sunny morning. Off out to explore after breakfast.....
