I have just read in Practical Caravan that Mayday cover only covers caravans less than 7 metres in length. Is the length including A frame? We have Mayday cover and panicking a bit now as I didn't see the restriction at the time i bought it.

Any advice welcome.

thank You

No size, weight or vehicle age restrictions

Cover for all cars, caravans and motorhomes, big
and small, old or new (within UK legal towing guidelines
    subject to using a standard 50mm tow-ball).

The above is copied from the Mayday terms on the "Insurance" header,on the main page.

But, but. There is an additional point which catches a few people.

7 metres body length of caravan is the maximum size that can legally be towed on UK roads with a normal car.

Caravans with a body length greater than 7 metres are only legal  on UK roads if towed by a heavyweight vehicle with a maximum authorised max (MAM) of 3500kg or above.

I've recently realised that if you have 'personal cover', in addition to your main vehicle you are covered in any other vehicle (as driver or passenger), but the 'other vehicle' must not be more than 16 yrs old. Our back-up vehicle is 23 years old (fortunately we only use is for short/ local journeys usually up to the tip and back), so we may have to have a rethink!!

Not sure you will find cover for that second vehicle at normal prices. Once it becomes a classic car you can, but until then I think the insurers will be too worried about covering clapped out old bangers.

I guess you're right @Wildwood. I have this suspicion that we may not have the 'rust bucket' (as it's affectionately called... 🤣🤣🤣) for much longer.....

I know it's a long time since the original post (must have missed it first time around) - but if I remember correctly it is Green Flag which has the 7m shipping length restriction. Reason I remember is that we used to be covered by Green Flag and I had to switch to Mayday when we got our last van - the Barcelona - which exceeded that length.
