Went to our outside building and found a dead pipistrelle bat right by the door such shame as we know we have some flying around at night. Just had to partly take one of our insects apart as a very flat dead small lizard trapped in the roller part heyho.

Sorry WN it must have been the heat yesterday what I meant to say that we had a dead lizard flattened in the roller part of our insect screen which OH had to remove.
Thankfully a bit cooler today after a storm overnight and no butterflies or moths flying about at the moment. Good photo of your moth.

Several bats flying around our home last evening, unable to take a photo but what a sight. We also had groups of swifts (containing possibly up to 15 individuals) over us during the day. Both animals really can produce fantastic aerobatic displays. So fast, so tight turns, those Swifts screaming as they do so with joy I’d like to think.

For the first time ever, we have had ring necked parakeets flying over our garden and sitting in trees surrounding us. There are at least three of them. To the best of my knowledge, although they have been spotted in other parts of Derby, I don't know of any being spotted, or heard, in our area. They have been here about a week now.

They have even migrated up here in the frozen North, which I thought was well out of their normal territory, as I saw a couple in our local park.

Spotted this Green Veined White Butterfly today on our walk. Not particularly rare but still glad to have a chance of getting this photo.

There are also several non native species which have found their own way to our shores in recent times. The collared dove being one. What I’m unsure about is when these new to us species, be they introduced or otherwise, become native species?
What is diabolical though are those once native species we humans have eradicated through persecution, ill tolerance or over hunting.
Thankfully there is good news with quite a few of these now being successful reintroduced. One recent example here.

Have seen a lot of Swallows and House Martins about this week on our lines all getting ready to fly south.
A good spot WN we have had a Goshawk here earlier in the year but it got mobbed by the Carrion Crows and Magpies.
Also see two different birds of Prey the fist one was flying over here and going south so a quick check in my bird books a Short-toed Eagle and what a sight to see and the other was seen whilst coming back from Villefranche was a juvenile Bonelli's Eagle again flying south and it was quite to us which was a surprise.

Just looking through our lounge window at some birds at bottom of our field then a small flock of birds came over and glad to have the bins as it was about 10 Golden Orioles flying south west wow made my day as it is dull and misty here, also had more Swallows and House Martins going over this last week but not in large numbers.

A lovely couple of hours spent at Burton Mere reserve today. It seemed like it was going to be very quiet but by the end it had surprised us at the quality we had seen, particularly as there was too much water in the scrapes from recent rain for any waders with the exception of a lone flying Greenshank.
We ended up seeing Great White Egret, Peregrine, Kingfisher, Marsh Harrier among the birds with Common Hawker, Migrant Hawker, Southern Hawker, Common Darter and Ruddy Darter Dragon/Damselflies so all in all not that bad. But if we hadn't have seen half as much it still would have been a great day as it refreshes the soul.

A day of sunshine and frequent rather heavy showers so a walk into Keswick to visit the outdoor shops and update my “walking wardrobe”.
The plan to purchase Skiddaw as a rewilding project is making local news with mixed feelings but most folk seem to understand the reasoning behind this it seems. A funding website has already reached a sizeable amount. A map of the area being planned is shown below for those interested.Lots of Canada geese, many mallard and a few swans on the lake but little else to be seen. We are still seeing hundreds, if not thousands, of hirundines flying south over our van and down the length of the lake. Wave after wave from dawn to dusk. Made we wonder if they roost nightly on their migration or during heavy rain.

We spotted a couple of Kingfishers, one apparently chasing the other, today across Glaslyn nature reserve. There is a grand video of a pair having a right set too, as well as a group of photos, on the Balgarvies Loch Ospreys Facebook page from a few days ago.

We have woken to a glorious morning. Blue sky sun, but chilly breeze! Most welcome after 7 days from last Saturday lunchtime of storms,torrential rain and strong wind.
Out with Dora across the fields and thrilled to see a large flock of swallows shopping over the fields of black sheep. Summer isn't over yet 🤞Lots of chipping birds in the hedges, glad of some respite. We have birds on the feeders in the garden today. They've been sparse to absent this last week.

ust back at home after our week away and again looking through the lounge window saw a bird of prey and yet another Short toed Eagle 2 in a month wow made my day after a 3 hour trip back, birds back at the feeder.
Did have a few butterflies around the shrubs at the gite Red Admirals, Peacocks, Large Whites,Clouded Yellow, some blues and 1 Peacock and there have not been many of them about this year.
