Worktop Extension

We have recently had our maiden outing in our recently purchased Elddis Shamal. All was good except for the shortage of worktop in the kitchen area. The sink and hob takes up most of the work area, although there is a tiny pullout bit of worktop within a drawer, this is neither use nor ornament.

I would like to make a worktop extension on a lift up bracket but I cannot find any worktop to match the ones we have.

Has anyone got any idea where I can buy either a preformed extension or a piece of worktop designed for caravans in a variety of colours please.

Have you asked your dealer if they have some worktop to spare?

I had a similar requirement with a previous caravan and got a piece of worktop from the dealer, who had a small amount to use for repairs.

You could also try caravan breakers, who might have the worksurface from a scrapped caravan.

How about using a large wooden chopping board instead?

This could be easily shaped to fit neatly with the fixed worktop.  Fairly large bamboo boards are available from Ikea , Amazon, and other places

Look around your caravan for a manufacturers original piece of surface in a matching pattern ie a front chest table extension. Order that part from a dealer at a huge price and with a long wait. Cut it to size, infilling the hollow section edge with wood. Or, forgo cost and compétant woodwork by buying an unmatched melamine faced chopping, serving or similar board and undertake the simpler woodworking job of installing supporting brackets. Because caravan cabinets are lightweight/ thin, you might consider screwing the brackets through them and into a load spreading piece of plywood. Preparing meals on a very limited workspace is a skill required for all caravanners. A backpack size chopping board helps, along with an extra small, 12cm dia saucepan, 14cm where necessary and 16cm rarely. Pans without long handles take less space. Ours have thick bases and most certainly weren’t cheap.
