Name that CAMC Site......

It’s further off the road than HM, David, with no potentially annoying neighbours 🙂
Enjoy the sun.

That's our testing site. Whenever it's a new awning or caravan we go there for the night.
When you go North the roadworks just past the services are busy but easy enough.

Ah! I first went there when it was a local authority operated site.
Come on, Corners, it’s all yours!😀
Edit: hard luck. Kj's beaten you to it.

Home of The Sevens which is now an Olympic event.👍🏻

I recommend a walk around the town, David, including the Abbey and the River Tweed.

Did the town, but unfortunately the Abbey was undergoing some sort of rennovation work, so we went off to Jedburgh Abbey instead (+coffee shop down the hill). Also managed to find the site of Trimontium Roman Fort, William Wallace statue and the Scott View.... I suspect we will return to Melrose when we get the chance. Scottish Borders are well worth a visit. Just about to start to pack up to move on to out next site...

What, still working on the Abbey!
yes, Jedburgh is nice too and both the Abbey and the Jail are worth a visit.

We're National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland members, rather than NT and EH, so we get their magazines and info. Unfortunately the work at Melrose will take a few years and quite a few other places in Scotland are affected too.

Thanks for that, Corners.

It’s being going on since COVID. They shut everything down, there wasn’t a lot done at the Sites once lockdown ended, but once accessible again, they found quite a few issues. For some reason, almost every monument was closed, huge fences up, and most HS properties came to a standstill. We visited Melrose Abbey in June 2021, and could only get into the gardens, not close to Abbey at all. Lots of other properties like Caerlavarock, Threave Castle were the same, totally closed. I did some background digging, and it would seem that there has been inadequate funding down the years, leaving some properties badly in need of work. There has even been mention of allowing some properties to go into a gradual decline. It’s a bit political, so not for on here, but sincerely hope things can be sorted. The castles, abbeys etc…. Are one of our main reasons for visiting Scotland, along with the wonderful scenery, etc.. as well. We are CADW Members, so access everything on that Membership.

Arrived at our next site on Sunday. Internet with 3 is pretty poor here, but here are a couple of photos if anyone can spot where we are... The entrance to the site is very busy, but the site itself is quite calm However, we've been warned of a local disco on Wednesday evening.... 🙂

Hi David, Stonehaven.
It's only 45 minutes easy drive from where we live, Dundee. So it's a favourite of ours for a quick easy weekend away. We used to stay on the pre CAMC site too and were very excited when it was announced that it was being taken over and redeveloped.
We enjoy a walk along the front, past the excellent award winning chipper and very popular ice cream shop, to the harbour. We like The Ship for something to eat and a pint, but there are a couple of other decent places at the harbour too.
This might be a bit boring for most, but the flood prevention / protection as you walk through town is interesting and such a godsend for the residents now.
A deep fried mars bar at The Carron has to be tried at least once. The Market Bar in the Square is a typical traditional " locals " boozer and very friendly. The butchers also on the Square also does Aberdeen butteries ( rolls ) and some excellent / different pies.
On the way back to the site we often stop at the indoor bowling for a drink and during the day it's also a nice place to sit outdoors and have a game. The members are very friendly.
( anyone with kids will love the beach, the huge play area and skate park next to the site as well as the outdoor pool )
Hope you're enjoying your Scottish trip 👍🙂

I thought it would be aneasy one, Alan. Stonehaven it is! I have a deep fried mars bar on my list. Also, apparemtly the Ice Cream at Aunt Betty's is good too. We were going to go to Aunt Betty's yesterday, but the queue was really long, so we made do with a tub of Ben & Jerry's from the Co-Op... 😢😢 We'll try again though..... Someone also recommended Fish & Chips, but I'm not that keen on fish... 🙂 Thanks for the recommendations... 👍👍

That’s good news. We couldn’t get into any of the Abbeys last time we visited, such a shame as we love the Borders area, so good for Abbeys and Castles. 👍
