We have a Bailey Unicorn Cabrera which weighs 1600kg unladen and are looking to buy a new tow car.We have narrowed it down to a Skoda Kodiaq or a V.W.tiguan Allspace Rline Does anyone else have either of these and if so what have been the towing experience?

Are you sure that’s the unladen weight? It’s the laden weight/MTPLM you need to consider.

Thanks for that you are absolutely right not the unladen weight but the MTPLM.

    I have a 23 plate Allspace 2.0 Diesel 200ps DSG.

I found the Skoda seats uncomfortable and I don't like black interiors so the R-Line is no good for me, I have the Elegance.

The Volkswagen 2.0 diesel engine is nowhere near as refined as it used to be but the car is quiet and comfortable.

I am towing an 1800 MTPLM Elddis quite happily.

I have a 23 plate Kodiaq Sportline, 200 Bhp DSG, and tow a Bailey Unicorn Cabrera.

I've had the car for 15 months now and am delighted with it both towing and solo.

My advice would be to go for the 200BHP engine with an automatic gearbox and, if buying new, go for the factory fit towbar.

A word of warning if buying used. Some older models have a towbar limit of 80KG, and you will need the 100Kg that is standard on newer models for your caravan

Also, check the VIN plate weights. For reasons I can't explain, some Skodas are not approved for towing and have caught buyers out

Currently have a ŠKODA Kodiaq 190 bhp diesel and it’s now 5.5 years old. Previously a VW Tiguan 170 bhp diesel.  Kodiaqs and Tiguans share the same platform. Extremely pleased with both and both tow my 1500kgs van with no problem. However I find the ŠKODA a nicer car with more space and have just ordered a similar new model ŠKODA Kodiaq. I don’t think the new Tiguan is only available with the 150bhp engine and not the 193bhp.
As already said, do beware of towing approval. My current car is automatic. If it were manual it would not be approved for towing - very bizarre.

Not really fair to compare the Tiguan with the Kodiaq as far as space is concerned as it is a smaller car.

The R-Line Allspace seems to still be available with a good range of engines including the 245ps petrol

As far as I can tell the Tiguan Allspace is on it's way out, to be replaced by the Tayron next year with whatever that brings.

VW seem to be focussing their efforts on hybrids with the 150ps  1.5TSI petrol engine. I had this engine in a T-Cross and, although very economical, I thought it was unwilling and noisey.
