    Calor still sell 6kg bottles and also Flogas.

    I notice there seems to be an abundance of "patio gas" in various sizes. The tanks look bulkier than what vanners use because of the handles on them, but surely it is the same LPG and space permitting could be used in owners vans instead of the standard red 6Kgm or 4.5Kgm bottles?

    B&Q do a 6kg Flogas metal propane cylinder - around £80 and £35 for a refill/exchange. I believe they also still do Gaslight (formerly BP) 5kg and 10kg in the lightweight, transparent, bottle. Both Propane. 
    My previous Motorhome had a 20 litre LPG tank and the Safefill is 14.5 litres which is more than enough for my needs.

    Just been reading on another forum that Calor have had a rethink and are in the process of reintroducing the 3.9 propane and 4.5 butane bottles.

    This would be good news for many who are still using Calor 3.9Kg bottles but there's no mention of this policy on Calor's own website.

    I have had a safefill for 8 years, saved ££££, but in 2 years it needs to be recertified, 2 years ago I spoke to Neil at safefill, he said that the price of recertified + price of carriage would be more tan a new bottle, that is different to what I was told when I bought the bottle.

    If you look at the sticky list of where you can fill safefill their are loads on the list where lpg pump has being removed, and even more where no longer allowing safefill.

     

    so is it worth buying another bottle in 2 years time

    Does it have to be SafeFill that re-certifies? I have BosGas local to me in Wigan. Maybe they could do it? Sounds like the cost of carriage is the killer.

    What happens if you do not re-certify? Nothing I imagine save that you are at risk. I am sure my insurers would not take kindly to damage from an explosion or fire!!

    I bought new a couple of weeks ago so I have all but 10 years before I have a problem. I did ask about an used bottle in an auction on Ebay. The owner had not a clue what I was talking about regarding expiry date of the cylinder. Needless to say I did not bid! Another auction for a 2 year old bottle went for £190 with collection on the Wirrall. I paid just £195 including delivery to my home so zero point in bidding in that auction either!!

    Only you can make the decision.  Doing the maths is fairly simple but considering the convenience of a refillable versus an exchangeable I would find more challenging.  That said I can't imagine being without our Gaslows and the money we save by getting cheaper gas.

    My local Morrisons PFS does LPG and I believe most Morrisons do.

    I filled my bottle there this morning. Being a newbie I was very grateful for assistance from the MoHo owner on the other side of the pump who showed me how everything worked.  I was struggling as the instructions on the pump were not clear. 

    70p per litre was the pump price. A bargain!

    I have just read a thread by someone saying their safefill had split, twice my safefill has overfilled, 7.5 kg. gas + 4.1 kg. for the bottle =11.6 kg. my scales usually weigh 12.0 kg.

    yesterday when I come home it is weighing 14.00 kg. so it looks like I have 9.5 kg. in a 7.5 kg. bottle, so I don't doubt someone having a split bottle

    Can I return to this thread.

    I now have two SafeFill 11KG bottles the first bought brand new and, as instructed only filled to 15 litres on a first fill. The 2nd is a nearly new bottle where I was the winning bidder on an Ebay auction. When  collected it appears to be over half full with gas. 

    It follows that I have yet to need to refill either.

    My question: When I visit Morrisons to refill how will I know when the bottle is full? Does it blow off so that  there is a clear audible signal? 

    If I wait until the bottle is completely empty things are relatively easy. I just put in 19 litres then I know it is full. But if it just getting low that is when my query will arise.

    Don’t know if it’s the same with Safefill but with our Gaslow system the pump automatically cuts out, or reduces to an extremely slow fill rate, when they reach the correct level.

    I've had a couple of Safefill bottles for 2/3 years and have never filled them myself!!  Fortunately, our 'local' camping shop (Jacksons of Arley) have LPG and they do it for you.... 🙂  I don't have my bottles handy, but don't they have a circulat card on the top of the bottles, with the instructions..  or have I mistaken this for something else...

    Neither the yellow label on top of the cylinder nor SafeFill's pdf gives such detail. I now have this from another site:

    "They did say when filling listen to the pump, when you start it should pump quickly then when it is nearly full the pump will slow down and should shut off almost immediately. If it does not shut off within a few seconds then let go of the fill button. ....."

    All Safefill bottles have an overfill protection valve.

    This cuts in when the bottle is 80% full and cuts the pump off in much the same way as a petrol/diesel pump will cut out when the fuel tank is full.
