Harwich Ferry stopover

Hello everyone, we are planning to use the Harwich ferry to Holland in July and rather than get up at the crack of dawn thought of making a stopover in the Ipswiich area  where there are three CL sites listed. Would be interested to hear from anyone who
has done this. Thanks.

Haricot Ferry? I hope they serve beans on that route!

On a more serious note, this is one of the few longer ferry routes that have proper dog accommodation and the kennels are at no extra charge. We are trying the overnight ferry for the first time later this year instead of the Tunnel. Stop over info in the
Harwich area would be very useful for another time, assuming I like the ship's kennel of course!

We stayed overnight at a CL called Dairy House Farm before the morning ferry, but there are plenty of others in the area, and other people just park up at the port.

Haven't stopped at any of the three CLs around Ipswich but regularly stop at one of the four around Manningtree which is only a 20 minute drive away from the port. Very convenient for us. Same on the return even though the ferry does dock at 8.30 at night
but CL owners we've used are very accommodating.

Thank you all and in future I will keep an eye on the predictive text. I know, having looked through a book on the subject, that there are some redder faces than mine around!

Hi, we have stayed at a park called Strangers Home caravan park.  It is in the grounds off a pub about twenty minutes from the port. Post code is CO11 2US.

We used the route last year and considered Colchester Holiday Park but in the end parked at the port after  I e mailed Stenna who confirmed this was OK. We had a longer journey than you appear to have and we felt far more relaxed knowing that we could just
turn up having spent the day with family rather than having to be 'on site' by a certain time.

We spent the money we saved on a day cabin which was great as the crossing is a long one and we were able to catch up on our sleep. The port was quite quiet but, as it is a port, that's relative!

Thanks for the further posts. So good to hear different views. We hadn't considered parking up at the terminal. Will check out the sites flagged up and then decide. Thanks again for all of your responses.

Hi so you can sleep in your caravan at Harwich Terminal?

I know its generally ok for Camper vans but not caravans at a lot of these stop overs

This is a 7 year old thread, but a new query was started just 4 days ago - 13/5/24. The answers and suggestions there might help you.
