Travel advice
Hi. We are travelling with our caravan from Dover to Calais at the end of June and driving down to the French/Swiss Border some 10 miles from Geneva ( Camping La Colombiere). We will have driven from the Midlands to Dover and I am hoping someone can recommend a site approx 100 to 150 miles down from Calais towards our destination without straying too far from the auto route as a one night stop over. Many thanks in anticipation.

There are sites at Cambrai (at 90 miles) and Laon (at 140 miles) . Google for details, websites and reviews.

I don't know what happened previously but I've moved this from General Chat to here so, hopefully, it will attract more responses.

We haven't used this route for a long time but did use 2 sites for overnight stops some years ago.
I don't remember a lot about either.
One was at Laon, my main recollection is of following signs for a long way on some kind of inner ring road which took us 3/4 of the way around the town. There must have been a better way!
The other is at Guignicourt, not far beyond Laon. Camping au Bord de l'Aisne
The site was ok but I remember thinking it was expensive for what it was.

Clive you might like to have a look at this page from my website http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/the_route_south_2.html as it lists sites near to the main route heading south from Calais.

A suggestion if you don’t mind. That Colombiere site at Neydens is good quality, but the location isn’t. Shore side at Lake Annecy or at the foot of the cable cars at Chamonix Mont Blanc are the spectacular places to be. There are campsites.

I have been to Annecy and love it. We now have a small dog though and Annecy is more bike friendly than dog friendly. We will visit Annecy for the day though. Thank you. Clive

Camping du Vivier Aux Carpes, at Seracourt-le-Grand near Saint Quentin - about 190 km from Calais. Nice site in itself.

We regularly went that way south down the motorway and there is a list of sites we stayed at in my blog. https://jennyandjohngocaravanning.wordpress.com/site-reviews/

Assuming you are using the Autoroute I would recommend the site at Guignicourt mentioned earlier. Approx. 3 hours from Calais and very close to the motorway. It is an ACSI site so much cheaper if you are a member. This is our regular first stop and hope to be there again fairly soon.
