"Regarding the forum requiring both the first and second names to access, this was just the format of the system and required this information in order for members to access and take part in use of the forum"

Hmm, that’s not the version they told us at the start of the forum. In our discussions at that time, it was made clear it was a conscious decision by C&CC to use real names.

I agree with you, David, that there’s no point in pursuing the issue. Head, brick wall.

I have just been sent a members satisfaction survey from CCC in which I reported I am not happy about the forum being removed. If enough members do the same the club management may change their minds!

Its interesting that without their forum most of us wouldn't know anything about that survey!! Regretfully I don't think they are for turning on the forum, we will see in a couple of days times?

I am surprised CMC perseveres with this  ClubTogether forum - which has seriously lost its way and gone downhill. It could well be drastically pruned if not closed as the other club  has decided. to do.

I tend to agree ET, nowhere near as many posting as there used to be. Take away the clutter of  Trivia and General chat and there is not much else left. Facebook groups like Caravan and Motorhome Chat attract more interesting activity. Motorhome Fun also does pretty well. I read both on most days and occasionally post on chat but I am not a member of Fun.

I read lots of forums but only post on a couple. ‘Fun’ I find to be anything but that and certainly not worth paying for. This forum always sparks my interest and the remedy to its perceived (by some) lack of interesting activity is to post and generate activity. It’s no good complaining if we don’t contribute. Some folk like the General Chat and make friends there. Good on them!

There is no doubt that these types of forum are not as well used as they used to be. That is probably because Social Media, like Facebook, is now the mainstay on online discussion.  The problem is that not everyone "does" Facebook and doing away with this forum would disenfranchise those people so I would encourage the Club to stick with Club Together as long as it can. There may come a point when it is not required but I think we are a long way from that yet.

I suppose a lot depends on what you want from a forum. I do find Motorhome Fun useful and interesting. Motorhome Happiness is a Facebook group that I look at a bit but as is inevitable with Facebook groups it gets too confused to follow a particular thread for very long. Not much use if you want to search for information on a particular issue. I agree there seem to be fewer posts on CT  it maybe things will pick up a bit hen more people are out and about.

It’s no good complaining if we don’t contribute.

4 posts in 2 days on Ro's post about the "What’s the Longest Trip You've Ever Taken?" says it all. I wonder what response it would have got on the Club's FB page? 22 post on "Your 2024 Caravan and Motorhome Plans" in two weeks and even then some of them were off topic. Not exactly too difficult for 380,000 members to respond to either of these!

Its down to the Club as to what value they are getting for the effort required to keep CT up. I think they could make better use of it themselve which might attract more to use it but their favoured route to the wider world seems to be FB

I joined Motorhome Fun in February 2020, paying my £15 subscription. Probably, it was not the best time to join since the COVID thing was at its worse during this first (and only) year's subscription and there was also the emergence of a socio-political movement more or less worldwide, the name of which I dare not even mention in this place, which proved to be somewhat controversial - to say the least.

The upshot of this was the most extreme and poisonous series of threads that I have ever seen on any forum. These made the occasional arguments in this forum seem like polite conversation. The "ringmaster" was supposed to be policing this, and evidently there were rules about political comment, but not only did he do nothing, or at least only on the most extreme of cases, but, on occasion, he even joined in.

Needless to say I did not renew my subscription; it is true that there were a lot of useful informative threads, but the threads covering general topics and events of the day were genuinely frightening. I have never been back and I can only hope that it has changed.

As far as this site goes, it is, in my view, the polar opposite and is way too benign. I am certain that is why it is so little used nowadays, certainly compared to when I first started posting at least a decade ago or more. I have made my view known to Rowena, but I shall soon become a non-member as I no longer have a leisure vehicle and so no longer feel I have the right to pontificate.

    Graydjames

Much of what you say about Motorhome Fun I would concur with and one of the reasons I have never been a paid up member. There is much useful information on there which you seem to be able to access without being a member so I restrict myself to looking up the odd technical information which is often very useful. I think the problem with that forum is that if you pay for something there is probably an expectation that you should be able to say what you want and in a way that on other forums would not be allowed. That sort of free for all is often the downfall of most forums.

Sorry to hear you have given up motorhoming. This forum does allow past members to continue to contribute if you wish.

GDJ, as David says, there is no need to leave this forum because you are no longer a CAMC member. I have continued and the only difference is that I realise my club related experiences may now be outdated and I feel I have no right to comment on what the club should or should not do. That doesn’t prevent me commenting on other posters' views or from offering help based on my knowledge.

When your membership ends, your posts will eventually fail to appear but a quick email to Rowena will soon sort matters. The promise you will see on screen about posts being approved when three have made failed to materialise in my case and likewise for others in the same situation.

There are a lot of people out there who throw their toys out of the pram, if you simply don't agree with what they say, whatever the subject is, as they think that everyone should have the same view as they do! I too read some of the topics on Motorhome Fun but I would not join their forum.

I often find CT very helpful and read most of the site reviews, many of which I would miss if it was not for CT!

I suspect a lot of people "dip into" CT when they have an issue but are not naturally regular forum contributors. To me that is fine and a core reason for the Club to maintain a forum. Whilst more technical questions can be answered here there are probably more comprehensive places to look if you actually know where to look. So new posters are often pointed in a direction where they can find the information rather than the information being provided here. That is still helping the original poster.

As an aside I assume this is the last day of the C&CC forum? Rather ironically the latest post there is someone bemoaning the fact that you are open to so many scams if you use Social Media (not necessarily the case) and yet he is happy to use his real name on an internet forum!

I tried C&CC forum about a week ago and it wouldn’t let me in. I assumed they'd already pulled the plug and I didn’t give it another thought.

Its not available on the Members page anymore. It also looks like they have refreshed the user interface by changing the style. It looks much cleaner/easier on the eyes?
