I sent a couple of e-mails late yesterday afternoon to two different CLs, one 15 mins before the other, enquiring about a free pitch this weekend, and included my phone number. The second one phone back within 30 mins offering us a pitch, which we accepted, however we are still waiting a response from the other one!

I would suggest that the second one is not the way to run a business, even if they have no vacancies.

It can be VERY frustrating contacting some CLs!

I do wonder, if they give an e mail address, why do they not monitor it reasonably regularly?

As the vast majority of CL's are on working farms I suspect it's because they are all out and about working, not sat in watching for email to arrive.

I don’t monitor my emails. A little bell on my phone goes ting, and then I can choose to respond or not, depending on circumstances, or importance. No matter where I am usually as well. Very useful set up, particularly when selling things, or at work.

I did have to chuckle yesterday though, I got one via TripAdvisor, a response to an eatery review I did in 2013🤣 The manager thanked me for my review, and apologised that things weren’t quite as good as expected🤭

So there’s hope yet for contact Nellie😉

Not expecting that, but even checking once a day would be good!

It's not only cl's that aren't quick to respond to emails though. Since Monday morning I've emailed 30 estate agents and so far I've had 3 responses.

I guess a lot of cl's are old school where they'd prefer a good old phone call?  Maybe.

Yes, one we use regularly does not give an e mail address, no problem, we phone them.

But, when a site does give an e mail address we like to use that to have a "written record" of the price stated and the dates booked.

I prefer to email if poss. Not just to have a record but also because I am never sure when best to phone. Don’t want to phone in the middle of some tricky farm procedure! Not happy phoning in evening, I know it is a business, but I just don’t want to disturb people after a day at work. So email much better all round.

We have still not had any word back from that site, so it is crossed off our list for potential visits.

DC, whether they are a working farm or not one should expect a response within a day or two, at the most if they expect members to enquire about pitch availability, which surely is the reason for including their email address on the web site.

I had a similar experience recently. I sent both an email and then a phone call (answerphone) to a CL neither of which were responded to. However, I did get a call from the lady at the CL about 10 days later apologising for the long delay but she had been very ill with Covid. So it isn't always just a lack of interest in a potential booking that delays a reply.

I like emails because I'm hard of hearing. Phone calls can be very hard work. However I've never had a lack of reply to an email, delayed sometimes but I never email at short notice so no problem.
