Been a bit of a boring few days here not much happening we had planned to have a few nights away after Christmas at Strathclyde Park club site which isn’t far from us but it was far to windy to be towing the van so we didn’t get hoping to be away soon though. Had a lovely day today out with family for a game of ten pin bowling then a dinner at the local Indian 35 of us in total so quite noisy but nice to see everyone.
Happy New Year to all on here when it comes

Wondered about booking Meathrop, but the final access road looks a bit tight. How did you find it, Nellie?
David, it is a bit tight but it is not a busy road, and there are large units that manage to get onto the site. We only have a smallish van so no problems, so far, getting up to the site. I can see why it is a good site for a 1:00 arrival, all the same.

We were booked yesterday, but it may be a bit late for you, unless you do it before midnight to night. They take deposit for the number of nights that you book for. If you only want one night they still take a night's deposit and it will be refunded when you book in on site, for that's shagging expect to happen. Best of luck.

Good to read of others booking their free nights. Hope that they manage to get that and the other offers at the same time.
More mixed weather with frequent showers and periods of high winds. We had a walk through the village this morning and called in at St Mark's Church where they too had a display of small Xmas trees, not as grand as those pictured by Moulesy. Then met up with son and DIL for l, unch at The Royal Oak, Cardington, which was grand. Good to meet up with them again and we had a very pleasant afternoon.
A couple of photos of St Mark's and one for Millie with details of Langley Chapel. It will need enlarging to read properly.
Happy New Year to one and all.

We had a very pleasant evening last night. Son in NI rang to wish us a Happy New Year. We then had a chinese takeaway and did our best to finish the Quality Street (failed on that one!). Today is a very nice, dry and sunny day so far, so we are pottering in the garden doing some tidying up and refilling the bird feeders. Hope everyone else is having a good day. Happy New Year everyone

Same to you Millie😁 Sun is shining here at the moment, making all the rain drops sparkle. We had a lot of rain overnight, so I might have to stay on garden paths for any work I do in garden.
I’m not a huge fan of NYE, so we watched an (old) Aggie, OH then watched MOTD while I was in bed for around 11pm. Woken up by fireworks as usual.
Our diary of one day events, short breaks is filling up nicely. We added a couple of tickets to see Bryan Adams to it yesterday, and have an invite to a birthday afternoon tea at a place near Brodsworth Hall, so will have a look around there before the tea.

Two of our granddaughters came to spend New Years Eve with us, one of them leaving at 10.30 to go with her boyfriend to see his grandparents. I cooked a large roast for everyone, so we have enough left over for today so that I don’t have to cook again. We played games and at midnight our Son and family FaceTimed us. Our other granddaughter stayed the night, saw in New Year and remained relatively well, which was nice. Today we took her into town to meet some of her friends for lunch, they will then drive her home. Then we popped into a furniture store as we need a new sofa, difficult choice. Now just us relaxing at home.
Our caravan site has had to close as it’s flooded, we hope the river doesn’t rise enough for the floats to be activated. The dog walk field is a huge lake. We’ve also seen photos of Stratford park, in the town, and the river water is almost up to the top steps of the bandstand. It’s rained heavily here in Devon all day yesterday and again today.

It’s stayed dry all day here, so a few hours in garden for me. I like this time of year, it’s nice seeing old plants re appearing, bulbs poking through. Lots of birds today in garden as well, they raise the spirits.

A damp day here so went over to see friends for coffee and xmas cake which they bought back from UK from Waitrose very nice.
Went to bed early then OH said he thought he had something in the big toe and yes he had got that easily so he went to spray antiseptic on it and then I heard a loud noise he had fell onto the floor so went to see what had happened he had tried to put his foot on the laundry basket which is plastic so lid came off and he ended up with a slice in his big toe and a slightly bloody mess on the floor so all cleared up and OH sorted with plasters etc has he had another small cut under foot and thankfully no other injuries or bruises so by the time all that sorted it was New Year's day and made him soak the foot this morning and all new plasters again but he seems ok now if that was me I would have had bruises everywhere so said he must put slippers on in the house not bare feet as being a diabetic needs to protect his feet.
Sounds like folk have had a good New Year.
Found some crocus bulbs not planted so that will get done tomorrow into a small container that in the greenhouse so if it rains will be in the dry plus a few other chores.
We have had the warmest December and wettest since records began so lets hope January will be better.

By 'Aggie' do you mean Agatha Christie tda? We watched an old Agatha Christie film as well last night - Bertram Hotel - I love a Miss Marple film, especially with Joan Hickson. She s my favourite Miss Marple.

Millie
Surely Joan Hickson is the only, real, Miss Marple? Whilst I quite like Agatha Christie drama's I am always a bit puzzled why the main police character is always portrayed as something of an idiot? One would have thought she would have wanted her "investigators" to pit there investigative skills against cleverer people?
On a more mundane level we have been cat feeding over the last 36 hours as son and his wife have been in London. They get priority over my own meals!!!

I do Millie, we always call them “Aggies” 😁 Like you, we love all the Joan Hickson one’s, but this was actually the first of the Christmas specials, made in the last few years, 2016 I think. “And Then There We’re None” simple outstanding, cast, sets, costumes all 5*. We tried this year’s offering, but gave up after 20 minutes, it wasn’t doing anything for us.
Remember we were chatting about Freshwater pearls? This is my Xmas present. I can exchange the pendant part for other items, including this gorgeous lampwork pendant I found in North Wales.

That is really beautiful tda. i bet you will really enjoy wearing it.
We did watch this year's Agatha Christie and found it rather strange. We stuck with it though. We liked 'Why didnt they ask Evans' when we stayed with our son in NI. It was on ITV I think Easter 2022.

It started off fine and sunny but gradually deteriorated and we now have rain again!!
We had intended going for a walk up in the N/T's Carding Mill Valley but when we arrived we found that the car parks were full and the N/T's volunteers were stopping any more vehicles going up. We therefore had a couple of walks around Church Stretton, and I then had another back at the van before dinner.Tda, the pendants look lovely, and I am sure look great in you.
RedKite, so sorry to hear of your OH's accident. Hope that the injury to his foot doesn't pain him too much.

Thanks NTH another dressing this morning with self sticking tape which I have used before a bit better to get around a large toe and e says it feels fine. Did not realise you were in Shropshire as I lived there as a child near Cleobury Mortimer.
A dull day at the moment with rain in the forecast and parts of France have got strong winds but not here thankfully.
Xmas decorations etc are coming down today and a few other chores to do, as for tv I have been going through some older recordings so not much left now.

Thank you Nellie. We like to go up onto Long Mynd from other end, usually very quiet. Great up there by gliding club for a picnic, bit hairy getting up and down in MH🫣 It’s a beautiful area around there. Nephew’s wife, her parents live in Church Stretton.
That sounds a sore injury RK, hope it mends up soon. We use the self adhesive stuff for awkward body parts😁 Vet wrap😂

"We have had the warmest December and wettest since records began so lets hope January will be better."
ditto RK but we have had howling gale force winds for 24hrs now and not much is going to change before Friday if the weatherman is too be believed, but took the option of taking the Xmas tree down rather than braving the storm, it is outside now getting a good drink, early I know but have left the welcome lights and cards for the weekend.

Thanks Ttda more antiseptic spray on it this morning and taped up as you good stuff and he is walking around ok just wearing the right footwear.

Did managed a couple of garden chores trimmed some plants back and planted the crocus bulbs into a small pot.

It’s awful up here today, very dark for daytime, and torrential rain bouts in between lighter showers. It’s dropping colder as well.
We have just had a Sparrow Hawk land on the Pyracantha that is around Mum’s bay window. I can see the Spuggies quaking in the tall bit that rises up between bay and front door. They are too frightened to pop out to use window feeder. Not often you see a SH that close up😳 Gone now, but she will be watching……..

Same here in N Warks, TDA. Nasty day - staying indoors. Our daughter and S-in-L are heading back home to the Outer Hebrides today. They started out at 4am!! Just had a message to say they are N of Aviemore. They say the roads are slushy but I don't think they are having as much rain as we are here..... it's 'throwing it down' here. Hope the weather gets a bit better soon... especially for when we make use of our 'free night' at Castleton... 😀 It'd be a shame if the price we pay for a free night came packaged with a flood!! 🤣

Same here tda. Absolutely throwing it down. Made the mistake of driving over to Stamford as I needed to change a Christmas present bought from Joules by our son and DIL (we no longer have a Joules in P/B😩). The roads were awash and it was no fun going round the shops in the teeming rain. Present successfully changed (sales assistant so very helpful), had a coffee and came home.
I hope your OH's foot is soon better RK. Our local son has diabetes and our DIL has at last persuaded him to wear slippers in the house to protect his feet. He always used to walk round in socks.
Hope those out and about on the roads stay safe.

Have now arrived home after our New Year break, enjoyed a lovely last day when the sun actually came out. Walked the Sett Valley Way in the morning and then travelled to meet youngest son and his girlfriend in Glossop.
Amost packed up the van in the dry, light rain started as we hooked up. Journey home okay, very wet roads some flooding in places but not windy. Haven't unpacked the caravan as the heavy rain and strong winds arrived just after we got home, so will hopefully get that done tomorrow.
Ttda, what a lovely necklace.

We too have had torrential rain for most of the day. Everywhere is soaking wet, and we have a flood outside of the caravan door. Drove into Shrewsbury for foodstuff and filled up with diesel at Asda at 142.7p, the cheapest we have found for a while. The roads are flooded in places all around here, and the site owner has suggested an alternative route for tomorrow, which she will check out for us before we leave....very good of her.
Hope we can get packed up in the dry in the morning, H&T, just as you did. Sounds as if you had a better day than most yesterday.
Good to read that you daughter and SIL are well on their way back home, David. Fingers crossed that they get back safely.
Good sighting of the Sparrow Hawk, tda. Did you manage to get a photo of it?
